Lenovo A859 Phone Packs Quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM for $220
Alongside the new flagship Vibe Z, and the S650 and S930, Lenovo today announced the A859, a self-described 'tweener' phone.
Lenovo is billing the A859 as an all rounder. In reality, it's a mid-range smartphone that runs on a 1.3 GHz quad-core chip from MediaTek as well as 1 GB of RAM. The A859 also boasts 8 GB of onboard storage (expandable to 32 GB via MicroSD), an 8-megapixel camera around back, a 1.6-megapixel camera up front, and a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720) display. The whole thing runs on Android 4.2 with Lenovo's own pre-loaded apps.
Really, the biggest selling point of this device is the price, which Lenovo estimates will be around $220. Suddenly those ho-hum specs look a lot more appealing (not unlike the Moto G). No word on release but we'll keep you posted. Stay tuned for a hands on at CES 2014, too!

somebodyspecial I don't see how these will compete with the coming T4i phones running 2.3ghz this Quarter which is squarely aimed at $100-200 phones. Why would you buy one of these slow phones? Even if T4i doesn't pan out and is 2ghz or so, it will still smoke these in cpu and the gpu will eat this for breakfast even with 60 cores. The difference in chip prices is probably less than $10 so these seem pointless. I'd always take way better perf for anything under $50 extra. We are talking a LOT of perf here for about $10. Even if these T4i phones come in $50 high I'd go that route, not this has been tech.Reply
