South African PC market to hit 1.6 million units in 2006
The PC market in South Africa is expected to grow 45.5% on year to 1.6 million units, including 900,000 desktops and 600,000 notebooks, in 2006, according to sources at Rectron, a Taiwan-invested IT distributor in South Africa. Including demand in Northern Africa (about 800-900 thousand units) and the twenty-odd member countries of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) (about 30-40 thousand units), the total PC market in Africa will top 2.7-2.9 million units in 2006, the sources estimated.
