Backups To Disk: Four Tape Alternatives Put To The Test
StorCase Data Express
DE50 2.5"
The StorCase Data Express comes in two versions; one for 2.5" drives and one for 3.5" units. Both devices are connected internally, but are unusual in that they use USB 2.0. In practice, this has the advantage that hot swapping the hard drives is possible. This cannot be done with UltraATA, and can only be done with Serial ATA if a raft of conditions are met.
A 2.5" hard drive holds data in the DE50, providing a maximum capacity of 100 GB. The eject mechanism is similar to that of a diskette drive; the removable module is also secured by a lock that also cuts off the power before ejecting. The hard drive is protected against light knocks by foam.
