E3 2006 Preview: The hot games list

Warhammer, Red Steel and Alone in the Dark

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (PC)

In an effort to knock World of Warcraft off its mighty horse, Mythic Entertainment will be hyping its forthcoming Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning MMORPG. Based on the popular fantasy war game series from Games Workshop, Warhammer Online is scheduled for release in the fall of 2007, but Mythic has already released a trailer for the title that promises action-heavy game play. The publisher will be showing off Warhammer Online at its E3 booth throughout the show.

Alone in the Dark (Xbox 360, PC)

The survival horror series is brought back to life for Xbox 360 by Atari and game developer Eden. Despite being the subject of a wretched 2005 film adaptation, the all-new Alone in the Dark installment for 360 aims to bring a different kind of game structure to the consoles.

According to Atari, the game will be split into distinct episodes similar to a television series. Each game episode will run between 30 to 40 minutes with taut cliffhangers, recaps of previous episodes, and previews of the next episode. Hopefully, there won't be any television commercials squeezed in between.

Red Steel (Wii)

Ubisoft's recently announced exclusive title for Nintendo's Wii makes its big screen debut at E3 this year. A first-person action title set in modern-day Japan, players will utilize katana swords and firearms while trying to master Nintendo's new TV remote-style game controller.

Nintendo is hoping Red Steel draws FPS fans to the Wii while Ubisoft hopes to create another successful game franchise along the lines of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and the Prince of Persia series.
