How $200 Goes a Lot Further

F.E.A.R

F.E.A.R. is another title that tends to run better on Nvidia-based hardware. This time around it is no different, as the Nvidia-based graphics cards outperform their ATI based peers. However, the flagship Radeon X1950XTX does best with DX9-based hardware. The GeForce 7950 GT does very well in the competition. It delivered more than 20 more frames per second over the Radeon X1950 Pro in every F.E.A.R. test with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering disabled. With antialiasing and anisotropic filtering enabled, the gap narrowed but was almost five frames above in all of the 4xAA and 8xAF tests.

Looking to the bang-for-your-buck comparison, the GeForce 7950GT is your best bet if you like to play F.E.A.R. Interestingly, the GeForce 8800GTS and Radeon X1950XTX deliver more frames per dollar than the Radeon X1950 Pro Ultimate. While this is the one and only place this occurred, it shows that the performance in F.E.A.R. is less than it should be at its price point.
