The Little Keyboard That Can: Auravision EluminX

Out To Change The Keyboard By Adding Backlighting

Auravision LLC is a company that literally seeks to change the way people look at computer products. The firm's genesis can be traced back to when Ennova Corp., a product development marketing company, joined the GWD group, a marketing and technology management firm. Using patented electro-luminescent technology, the company seeks to develop and create new computer peripherals and consumer electronic technologies designed specifically to remain visible in dark or low-lit workspaces and environments.

A look at the S202-12 from above, which offers a better view of the keyboard layout.

Electro-luminescent technology was first used in laptops developed for military applications when computer and electronics gear must perform well in low-lit or nighttime operating environments. The patent was licensed to Itronix, a leading rugged mobile computing vendor for field service, government agency, aerospace, telecommunications, and other applications. Customers include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. and the International Olympic Committee.

Auravision shipped us the S202-12 from their Slim Series, and there were a number of things that really made this keyboard stand out. While it is not the only backlit keyboard we have seen, it is by far the best.

The EluminX is backlit at a comfortable level, unlike less-expensive alternatives that are too bright. Indeed, it is almost soothing to stare at the soft glow of the keys.
