24-pin ATX Power Cable will not clip on to motherboard but still provides power... Is this a problem?

I am using a Corsair CX600 PSU and an ASRock Extreme4 Mobo (links below) and When I plug in the 24-pin power cable, it appears to go in all the way but the little clip does not latch onto the connector. The cable provides power at this level, but is loose and falls out if I stand the case up too forcefully.

Is there a trick to attaching the cable? I fear bending the motherboard since the ATX socket overhangs the edge of the board away from standoffs.

Edit: I should note, The power being supplied seems to be working fine. When I first built the box, I only had the most critical parts. I was able to get everything up and running and install Windows. Today, I am installing a second HDD and video card, and the act of moving the computer caused the cable to fall out. This is where the concern comes from.

almost sounds like your cable is to short? the cable is meant to clip on so it doesn't fall off the way you describe. There is no trick just stick it in the connector and push yes the board may bend slightly. To prevent this stick a finger just under the board while pressing. Sometimes the clip is just a hair to short and you may have to lift the end slightly or push the clip down to get it to catch.

I have a MSI A78M-E35 motherboard and a Corsair CX430 PSU.
It was extremely difficult to get that last millimeter or 2 to close so it can latch.
I did the paper clip test to test my cpu and it runs good so I asked my stepdad because he knows about wires.
He wiggled the wires around to loosen up the 24pin, but make sure not to pull a wire out and then he tried with all his force to push in, but it didn't go.
So he put a cloth on the mobo and got some pliers and closed that mm gap and it clicked.
He also made sure not to put the pliers on the metal pins under the mobo.
I HOPE THIS HELPS! Be careful
Also can the fans power up if it is just the mobo and psu and processor connected?

I have same issue with Corsair CX430 I bought recently. MB is Asrock H97M Pro4, which is also a brand new. only 24pin connector has such an issue. I did clip it in once when I tried to test the MB, CPU and Mem without the case. But after I moved them into case, never succeeded.
Now pc is still working well. Any good approach to clip it in?

The board needs to be supported from underneath so the board wont bend or break. Then with two thumbs one on each side push the connector in. Sometimes a little wiggle from top to bottom while pushing will help.

It is very important to support the board under the connection or you can damage it by pushing to hard.

I've got exactly the same problem with the ATX cable supplied with my Corsair RM 550. I've decided that the only solution is to dismantle the newly commissioned PC, place the mobo on a suitable flat surface and fully engage the ATX plug and refit the mobo before plugging the cable into the psu. Another issue is the stiffness of the excessive length of flat cable so I intend to separate the individual conductors and wrap them into a more flexible bundle, they peel apart easily enough. I'll also get a shorter cable if I can.

1. Check if you're putting it in right side. ( clip clip side)
2.If it still doesn't fit then separate 4 pin connector and just install 4pin at its right spot. If it fits perfectly check for the bent pins on motherboard or bent connector slots on cable.
3.Compare sizes of 4 with 20 pin connector of psu.
4.If sizes are same Many times people think they are applying enough force and applying bit more will damage the motherboard. It wont break the motherboard just apply more force and don't forget to support the motherboard from the back with your hand and it will fit in perfectly.

I had similar problem with my Corsair CS 650m I though I was applying too much force and it will break if I put in more force to fill that last 1/2mm gap.
But I took my computer to technician. He was able put 24pin connecter 3 times but with much more force
and it works fine.

My computer specs:
-i5 4460 3.20GHz
-MSI GTX 970 4GB
-Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz 2x4GB Dual Channel 8GB kit
-1920x1080 LG monitor
-500w Corsair Bronze
-1TB WCD Hard drive
-ASRock Z97 Anniversary Motherboard
-Windows 7 Ultimate
-Bit Fenix Mid-tower case

I know this Is an old forum page but I wanted to double check this problem as I have MSI GTX 970 and when I installed it I thought I'd try again to get my ATX power connector to clip in. I have used it for over a year and a half and its been fine. I think its just the plastic bit that clips onto the motherboard is about 1mm too short.

pc works fine thou

I replaced the Corsair PSU by a Sentey PSU and that one fit well from the first try.
I'm sure there is a problem with the connector of some Corsair PSUs.

If you look at SR-71 Blackbirds post it should answer all questions and answer this thread. The CX series PSU's from Corsair have very poor quality control and poor quality parts inside. Due to this They die quickly and some will not clip on properly to the motherboard.

Yes you can leave them unclipped as long as they are seated all the way but if you move your PC a lot or go to lan party's/travel with it the connection could loosen up or fall out while either in transport or during use causing loss of data/work/match.
