A couple of days ago i randomly started getting this error when starting various different programs.
Error reads :

The instruction at 0x******** referenced memory at 0xffffffff. The memory could not be read.

The memory references are different depending on what program i am trying to run. I'd be using the computer for at least a few hours with no problems at all, went out to the local shop and when i came back the error started. Nothing new had been installed, downloaded, uninstalled or otherwise changed.

After a few minutes on a search engine the first recommendation seemed to be to turn off the error reporting. After doing this the error disappears but is replaced with a generic "This application has encountered an error" message instead for all the programs in question.

After that i then updated / checked all my drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled a few of the affected programs. the problem persists in clean boot mode but seems to disappear in safe mode.
I've also tried sfc /scannow and windows repair, I have run multiple virus scans / malware scans / registry checks in both normal, clean boot and safe modes with no results.

System Specs :
cpu : Intel i7 920
mb : Asus P6T Deluxe V2
RAM : Corsair Dominator 1866 DDR3 - 6Gb
GPU : 2x GTX275 in SLi
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64

Update : I've since applied all outstanding windows updates (there were only a couple) with no effect and removed, cleaned and reseated the RAM, also with no effect. Doing a memory test now, but after that I'm pretty much at a loss.

Update 2 : Memory test complete , 3 passes with 0 errors. Thinking of just formatting now :(

Hey,

You're getting this problem because there are Shared DLL file registration errors in your system. As you might already know, every DLL file is registered in your computer's settings. However, the problem arises when these registration entries are corrupted.

1. Click the Start button.
2. Point to All Programs | Accessories.
3. Right click Command Prompt, select "Run as administrator".
4. Enter following commands-
regsvr32 -u xinput1_3.dll
regsvr32 xinput1_3.dll
5. Reboot when you're done.

There is an automatic way as well. Use this Quick Fix to scan the whole system for errors and repair automatically. It usually takes a minute or two.
