ive got a ASUS M5a99x EVO R2.0, bios version 1903 trying to update to 2103 (off the top of my head). When trying to update through ASUS AI, finding the file i downloaded off the ASUS website, it says "Model of BIOS Image does not match to the one of BIOS ROM"
So i tried doing it the safer and better way using the BIOS itself with a thumbdrive, however in the update utility (in the BIOS) it says "Security Validation failed" after selecting the file on the drive

Ive just gotten Windows 8.1 and I'm hoping the BIOS update would fix the massive stability issues with it. (the update problem was there with 8.0 btw)

2x1tb hdd

Solution
Sound you downloaded the wrong bios, respectively should lookup your exact mobo model again. And it's very unlikely, that a bios update will solve the stability problems.

1) download the lastest bio from Asus web to your harddisk
2) download also the rom to cap converter
3) download Brenamer from Asus web also
4) Convert the bio rom to cap file using the rom to cap converter( bef convert the rom should be a zip file, rem to extract the file)
5) Copy your Brenamer file to the same folder with bio cap file. Run the Brenamer
6) You will see the bio cap file change the file name (pls use the converter to convert rom to cap if bio file is a rom file before you rename it)
7) format the thumb drive to fat 32
6) Copy the renamed bio cap file to the thumb drive and follow the step of asus thumb flashing. you are done.

You got to rename the cap file to shorter one using Brenamer from asus bef flashing
