Hello there, I need help.
I recently built a gaming computer, and it was working fine, when suddenly the internet stopped working. When I troubleshoot, it says that my "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP Configuration".
What's wrong? How do I fix it?

System information:
OS: Windows 8.1 OEM
CPU: i4690k
Motherboard: Gigabyte G97 Gaming 5
GPU: ASUS GTX 770
Memory: G-Skill Ripjaws X 1866 8gb

Thanks

Solution
Shut down your system. Unplug your modem/router and leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds. Plug the modem/router in again. Once your modem/router has completed it's self test, power up the PC and test your Internet connection.

I am connected via ethernet cable that in turn connects with a Cisco DPC3825 router. By the way, if you need to know anything else, tell me where to find it. I am fairly new at this and don't know much about how to find stuff.

Thanks for your reply!

Thank you so much I can't believe it was that simple. Any idea what could cause this and if it will happen again?

Not sure what causes this. It could be a power fluctuation within your home. It could be a reset from your Internet Service Provider. It could be E.T. for all I know. :pt1cable:

As for whether or not it will happen again, I'm fairly certain it will. Just remember. The first step in troubleshooting should be a reboot. If not of the PC, then of the router/modem.

I have a similar system to yours and I had the exact same problem. I have spent almost the entire day on the phone with several different Comcast techs and finally the 6th tech figured it out. I have one of the new Comcast modems that is a modem and a router in one. The router for WiFi can be turned off if you have your own router which I do. Well, apparently it was turned off on their end, but something did not work quite right and it did not cause any problems until now. I don't quite know how to explain exactly why my desktop, which was hard wired would not work even when connected directly to my modem, but once the Comcast tech bridged my modem and had me reconnect my router to the Comcast modem my desktop connected immediately. I was told all day long by comcast that the problem was on my end, and that it was probably my NIC card, but it turns out that the problem was on their end the whole time and it was because they did not turn off the WiFi that is built into the modem, properly.

I hope this helps.
