I'm a student who works for my school as an assistant IT and I have to upgrade all the computers to Windows 10. This is easy to do but the computer lab here needs certain programs pre-loaded onto it as well. Whats the quickest way to do this and redistribute that image? I was thinking I could simply run the windows install to 10 as an update rather then a clean install, but i'm not sure if this is the most effective way. The other computers are reimaged with a wds image which I use over the network along with joining it to the domain and that's all that is needed for those.

As long as the systems are identical (same drivers), you can simply set up one machine and then create an image with REDO backup. Note that the the hard drive sizes must be the same (or bigger) than the original partition.

To get around partition issues, you can shrink the original system's partition to something small, and then expand it after copying the image over to the new machines.

With your image created, and put onto an external hard drive. You can boot redo backup to the other machines and restore the image to them. This will be a much faster process.

Something to consider, make sure the machines are using DHCP so you do not have any IP conflicts. Also, You might want to not add the machines to the domain until they are fully setup.

Well here's where it gets complicated. The lab has a mix of Dell optiplex machines. Ranging from 755 to new 980. Not only that, HDD sizes very from 80 to 240. As well as varying RAM amounts. I've had a time trying to work with these machines as they are. We don't have the best IT as he is rarely around to help out.
