We recently bought a new better modem and it works great. The problem is that the modem doesn't really work in my room, on the other side of the house. I have an Ethernet and cat5 cable outlet in my room. Can I use the older modem in my room and directly connect to it via ethernet? I am not going to replace either modem.

Thanks

the second modem, the one you want to use, can you enter in the configuration menu?

is it still having any isp support or internet?

if you can use the ethernet cable directly to your room, why you need the other modem? more ports or perhaps wifi signal?

on those cases what you need is a cheap router, it will be simpler to handle and configure

Terminology:
modem, router, modem/router.

A Modem talks to the ISP. It has one LAN port on the back
A Router talks to the modem and your internal devices. It generally has 4 LAN ports on the back
A Modem/Router is both of those functions in one physical box.

What is the actual make/model of the devices that you have?

If you have a Cat5e outlet in the wall in your room....you almost certainly do not need another router in there.

The new one or the old one? I am running off of my laptop's wifi currently and am 50% sure Ethernet works on my laptop the second modem is in perfect used conditions so I'd bet I can access the menu.

Knowing ALL of the parts you are working with will probably lead to a viable solution.

i think you don't need the second modem

but for knowledge purposes, the second mdem can be connected to the first one via one of the 4 lan ports, the setup i asked previously, you enter in there, disable the dhcp in the router and set the wifi yo want with the password you want

this way the second modem will act as a sort of switch/access point

this is useful when you need to extend a network but you don't have another router or a switch, a access point either
