Yes taking out the CMOS battery will reset the BIOS to default, no idea if it will fix that issue however.
And you will want to leave the CMOS battery out for several minutes to be sure it cleared. PC must also be unplugged from power.

Well one would think it would default to the GPU, but I have no idea how some OEM HP mobo selects which display adapter to use. It should display something on screen either way.

the problem is that i dont have a dvi cord right now but if i have the graphics card plugged in i thtink i will default to the discrete
