Dell Optiplex 980. New SATA data cable and SATA power cable splitter purchased. ODD isn't recognized by PC. Two empty SATA slots on motherboard, neither works.

Do you already have another ODD fitted?? Check the manual if possible, it may be that the ODD will only work in one specific SATA port, and you already have something using it.

Dell BIOS are a PITA, they deliberately lock out a lot of functionality, and actively block people from upgrading their USFF and SFF systems.

My only ODD has power. No data. I've been all through the BIOS and can't find anything about enabling SATA ports 2 & 3. SATA 0 has my SSD, SATA 1 has my HDD. SATA 1 will allow me to use the ODD instead of the HDD if I choose. There was an option in BIOS about CHANGING SATA to ATA (or??) but all the choices gave me a warning, so I left it alone. I've dug through the manuals as best as my one good eye will allow for the day and can't find anything.

Half gallon of eye drops later and some further reading... There is no option for the SATA 3 port, but I found the check box beside SATA 2 in the BIOS was unchecked. Checked it. DVD drive running fine. Thanks y'all.
