Hello guys!

So i finally managed to put my old monitor as second on my desk but i did not have any cable so i bought a hdmi vga cable ( i have gtx 1080 asus strix 8gb), after 10 minutes of almost breaking the keyboard my graphic card recognized the monitor so my google chrome was somewhere on my second monitor but it was still staying check cable connection so for 10 minutes i tried to drag "blind" google chrome from "old vga check cable connection to my main monitor". This happened after i installed the vga driver from the official site.
So my question is simple why does the monitor works "digital" and on reality it says check cable connection. I mean everything i was click was opening on check cable connection monitor.

Thank you!

your 1080 does not have an analog signal for the old VGA monitor. the cable you bought is not an "active" convertor that is able to change the digital signal from the 1080 to one the analog vga can use. so you get no picture since the monitor does not know what to do with the digital signal you're giving it.

you will need a new cable/adapter that is an "active" one and then you should be good to go. don't think i have seen many cables that are active but there are plenty of adapters that are. they tend to run $10-15 usually for a decent active adapter.
