Water in PC

Hello all,

So last night I accidentally spilt water into my PC whilst I was using it. The monitors went fuzzy, stopped responding and there was a distinct electrical burning smell.

It was a tiny amount of water, no more than a few drops. I opened up the PC and it appeared that my graphics card had took the few drops. I still had my old 600 series Nvidia handy, so I replaced it with that and it booted up fine. Once it had all loaded I noticed that the ethernet was not working. So I tried to reboot but the PC would not come back on. It would power up for a few seconds and then turn off.

So I stripped everything out and left it overnight. This morning I rebuilt it and noticed that the small socket part of the PCI-E slot looked like it was tarnished. I tried anyway and I just kept getting an error from the BIOS telling me that overclocking failed. So I pulled the battery for 5 minutes but that error remained. I went into BIOS settings and restored defaults, still the error remained.

I've stripped everything out again and took the battery out and left it whilst I've come to work. I also tried to clean the tarnish with a little isopropanol, but it's difficult to do. Being a week from payday after a 5 week month I'm hoping I don't need to replace anything. Is there anything else I can do to help my chances?

Thanks

main things you did wrong here:
With water on ANY electronics INSTANTLY turn off power. ANY BATTERIES, power sources needs to be disabled to avoid corrosion. at least few hours.
1. was it fairly clean water (with sugar)? if sugar free then you have 5 times better change to make it work again.
2. before turning it back you should check for corrosion and clean with isopropanol (or acetone, but carefully with later one, its strong and might do damage)
right now you need to assess damage and try to avoid using whatever was affected. I don't think you need to replace mobo but you know :) I've spilled sugary coffee and laptop became pricy mug heater.
