Looking to upgrade my CPU, will it be worth it?

Hello, I have a i5-6600 and gtx 1080 and I just feel like my i5 is holding my system back in terms of performance as I have 2560x1440 monitor.

I was thinking of buying a i7-8700k and the Aorus intel Z370 gaming 7 motherboard, I'm just wondering will this upgrade be worth it, and If I will see a improvement with games that are cpu heavy.

And would i need to get a higher Watts power supply mine is currently SuperNova P2 750W Platinum.

If you could give me some advice that would be greatly appreciated

Power supply is fine. If the games utilize Hyperthreading or favor high clockspeeds, you would indeed see a decent boost, though not like you would at 1080P. Other games the boost would be quite minimal if noticed.

4c's are being saturated in games today, you've probably noticed in heavy threaded games cpu usage is in high 90s.

8700k's extra cores + Hyperthreading will see cpu usage drop, less stutters and your fps will increase.

Unless your playing super demanding games like Star Citizen or ARK Survival, you won't see a big jump in FPS at 1440P.

Are you having noticeable bottlenecking? Is your GPU usage pretty low and your CPU usage maxed out?

Hello I was testing it last night, and my cpu was at 99% usage and gpu at around 40%, when my cpu was maxing out at 100% my gpu would also go up to 90%

If your CPU is maxed in gaming, it's not a good thing. Means it's holding back performance from your GPU. Only going to get worse as newer games are released that you would play.
