Which motherboard/CPU should I get?

I'm planning to get a desktop but I'm unsure of which motherboard to pick.

My CPU is going to be: Intel® Core™ i7-8700 Coffee Lake 6 Core Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.6 GHz)

But for the motherboard: I only have two options.

- ASROCK B360M PRO4 (ATX Motherboard)

Or

- ASROCK Z370M PRO4 (MATX Motherboard)

Now as I'm a complete tech noob, is it okay to get a motherboard capable of overclocking like the Z370 as opposed to the non-K i7- 8700 CPU. Will it cause any problems? I'm a little paranoid about overclocking hardwares because I dont like accidental overheating of any components.

The price difference in the motherboard is not alot, but I dont know which one to get.

There's a H370 though, but it is currently out of stock so I'm not sure if I should wait for it.

The 8700 is not capable of overclocking, but it'll still work just fine with the Z370 chipset. What is the price difference between the Z and H370? Personally, you won't notice a HUGE difference between the two. I'd just go for the B360 ATX board.

@profoundnoah

Only a $10 difference, not really that much.

But if it means better performance, then maybe I'll go for it.

And when you mean you wont notice a huge difference, meaning between the B360 and Z370?

I heard the B360 has very limited features as compared to the Z370. Will I still benefit from getting the z370?

Thanks!

For $10 that's worth it imo for the extra features, better onboard audio, better i/o + more ports for upgrade flexibility and overall quality of the Motherboard. Of course the main reason of a Z370 is Overclocking paired with a K series CPU, they still typically offer far better features since they're the premium series. By difference, he probably means you won't get any extra performance out of it, because Motherboards don't offer more performance outside of overclocking potential. Hope this helps! :)

I agree with the above. B360 is what I would get without an unlocked processor.

Edit I saw prices or 78$ and 120$ usd. If it was only 10$ difference I would have to get the z370 just for the hell of it.

Let's say if I'm getting the non-K 8700 and the z370, will I need watercooling?

Cooling IS-40 ($0)

CRYORIG C7 Low Profile CPU Cooler($59)

AFTERSHOCK Glacier 120 closed loop watercooling ($60)(discounted price)

it's still within my budget range, but I just want to save myself from overheating problems.

Is watercooling be durable? What are my best options?

Either is fine if you're not overclocking. Get whichever you prefer. The AIO (All in one) liquid cooler will likely be better in terms of installation (RAM clearance) and such although the air cooler is low profile so this isn't much of a concern. But i doubt a small AIO like that will outperform a decent air cooler. Just go with whichever you'd prefer, performance wise the water cooler won't make any difference at that price range against air coolers.
