Crucial MX500 vs Samsung 860 Evo

I need to replace a struggling hard drive in my dell laptop with a 1tb ssd. I've narrowed my choices down to the MX500($186) and the 860 Evo($199). Does the 860 Evo offer enough performance advantage to warrant a 13$ increase in price? Which company has the better drive migration software?

Doubt anyone could tell the difference save for a few percentage points in a sequential reads benchmark..; zero difference, real world...

As the costs are fairly close, I'd still go Samsung in that instance, however...

The Samsung 860 EVO 1TB will be 7% faster than the Crucial MX500 1TB. That agrees with the 7% price difference.

Agreed, I'd go with the EVO for such a small price difference, plus the Samsung comes with the Samsung Magician Software which is pretty good.

Performance, flip a coin.

Cloning? See this:

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.

Thanks everyone, I think i'll go with the Samsung 850 Evo, seeing as they seem to have a pretty decent drive migration software and its only very slightly more than the mx500.
