What's wrong with my graphics card?!?!

About a week ago (no dead meme intended) I purchased a used gtx 980ti from the company CEX or webuy.com. I did not know what brand or model I would get only that it would be a fully functional gtx 980ti and when it arrived 3 days ago I found it to be an inno3d Airboss card (I do not know the exact model only that it has 3 fans, Airboss written on the side, the same symbol as the inno3d Ichill on the centre fan and the colour design is red on the right and white on the left).

After opening it and seeing it was too big for my case (cooler master elite 310) I decided to drill/cut off part of the drive bay so that I could fit the card and yesterday I did and it fit. I replaced my old card (a gtx 1050) and placed the new one in my motherboard (MSI 760gm-p23 fx) with my CPU (amd FX 8150). I turned it on and it turned on fine.

Although my pc was fine and I had just installed the latest Nvidia drivers, I was concerned as none of the GPU fans were spinning. Nothing was burning and there was no smoke or smell and it didn't crash but it looked online just in case. I saw somewhere that some GPU fans only turn on when needed (high temps) and since everything seemed fine I left it.

I then decided to overclock because why not, free power. I installed MSI afterburner and unigene superposition to test it. Superposition ran fine without any touches and scored 9004 I believe. I then proceeded to overclock but it kept crashing. Anytime I increased the core clock or volt or memory clock it crashed either on opening or half way through or right before finishing. I am pretty sure I spent a good hour or so trying before giving up when I decided to turn on 'user auto' or something to automatically turn the GPU fans on at auto speed (around 40 or so). That took down the GPU temp from around 40 to around 30 so I help a lot however I did not overclock as I couldn't really be bothered plus since this card is second hand it's lifespan may already be low and I want to preserve it for a while.

This is when I got confused angry and upset. I decided to launch GTA 5 to complete story mode as I rebought the game and wanted to play some modded. I launched it with the recommended settings by Nvidia geforce experience and went into story mode. It loaded fine and I walked outside and got in the car. I drove into the main Street and something crashed. I don't really think it was the game but I may have after. The screen went brown or green (one of the two but it was a plain colour) then went black and my monitor displayed no signal. I restarted my pc by holding down the case power button and tried again, exact same thing. I then decided to play a less demanding game, rocket league. It loaded fine like GTA 5, I had maxed settings and changed my car a bit then went into a 1v1 match. After it went 3 2 1 I drove and same as GTA 5 or green screen then no signal. However, after a few seconds about 10 everything came back with rocket league minimised and no way of opening it from alt tab so I restarted my pc again. I then tried the game I play most right now, fortnite. Launched it fine, went into battle royale and checked the item shop and my skins, danced to see if anything was bad and it was fine (this is with everything on ultra except shadows on off). I even checked afterburner and everything was normal. I went into sniper shootout, loaded for 2 seconds and same as the other games a greenish blueish screen then no signal on my monitor. After waiting 30 seconds because I was so depressed I couldn't touch anything it went back to the desktop page and fortnite couldn't be opened like rocket league but I had no mouse. I couldn't even click anything so it wasn't invisible just not there except when I help alt tab then I could see it and close the epic games launcher.

But what surprised me is after 20 minutes of depression and anger I had an idea to lower the settings so I tried fortnite with all settings on low 1080p and it worked fine even at tilted a few FPS drops to 50 but otherwise worked fine. I turned it back up to high but that crashed 2 seconds after the battle bus. I thought it my be my bottleneck as my CPU is s**t compared to my graphics card. I am getting an amd Ryzen 1600 or 2400g but I thought if I but my GPU now it should be fine till I get my CPU.

I have no idea what is wrong and I want to know if I can fix it before sending my GPU back (if I can) since I spent £280 and have been waiting ages for an upgrade. I'm sorry for the very very long description this is my first time posting on this website for help and I wanted to make sure anyone who can help knows the full story just in case. I appreciate anyone who reads this or even just skims it and anyone who can give me an answer or an idea.

I have a Corsair VS 650W PSU. I have plugged both the 6pin and 8pin connector in and I get around 50 to 55 degrees when I was in game for the few seconds I was and before installing the new GPU I used ddu to remove the old drivers
