Will I get screen tearing? Do I need a 144hz monitor?

I'm spending 2.3k on a computer but I dont want to get another monitor at the moment. From what I read screen tearing happens when your frames dont match up with the refresh rate of your monitor. So since I'm getting a really good pc that will almost always have 120+ frames am I forced to get a 144hz monitor? Is screen tearing guaranteed to happen? Sorry I'm just worried cause from what I read it seems like the better your computer (the more frames you put out the worse it can be).

Solution
freesync for radeon and gsync for geforce, 120 fps has nothing to do with 144Hz monitor, ST occurs when output receives overlapped frames , to avoid this AMD and nVidia created proprietary FreeSync and G-Sync
