Turning a 1u server into a makeshift laptop

Not sure if this is the correct forum but looked the most relevant to the topic at hand anyways...

Something I've been wanting to do for a long time is turn a 1u server into a makeshift laptop and was hoping I could get some advice on potential models of used 1u servers in the roughly $100-$250 range on say ebay(or craigslist) that can support a decent resolution preferably around 1080p either with built in graphics or something that can be added fairly easily.

also hoping to fit in a wifi card of some sort but I'm pretty sure that can either be done from a pci port or USB easily

The main thing I'm not sure of is the best way to design the lid and using a keyboard and whether something like this actually can hold the server inside or what exactly or whether I'd have to hack together a lid using a common monitor, keyboard, etc(not too much of an issue outside of the best way to design it as my Dad can craft it pretty well out of metal to fit the monitor etc) also no plans for battery usage unless the server has one built in or I use an AC back up power cable or something like that

one example of a server I'm interested in is this I don't think it's 1u tho but just an example

I'm looking for the best way to go about this build as I have little experience with actual modification of a case or anything like that

I'm also not really concerned about weigh I just want raw power(mostly for virtual machines) with a decent screen

Ur problem is the screen. I have an AIO Mobo that has a LCD screen interface but other than that I know nothing about it, whether that interface is standard and used for all/most(?) LCD screens?

What's the allure of doing something like this? at the end you may end up spending more$, and nothing resembling a laptop.

1U servers are REALLY loud. I wouldn't want to have to sit next to one in a quite room.

The R710 you linked is a 2U server not a 1U server. They are a little bit quieter.

Server cases like the one you linked are usually about 30 inches deep. That doesn't make much of a "laptop" ...

A $200 1U or 2U server, transmorgrified into a "laptop".

1. Noise
2. Size
3. Weight
4. Performance outside of the "server" function
5. Noise

Just because it was a "server" does not mean it is a good workstation or gaming system.
And a "server" that was originally $1500, now selling for $200...is selling for $200 for a reason. It is old and outdated.
