Crossfire with 3850 and 4850?

I have an ATI HD3850 @ 670 Mhz and I will be buying an HD 4850 (eventually). I will be using an X48 board with a Q9450 and was wondering if I could crossfire these two cards. I've heard rumors about it and such, and seen people denouncing and applauding the combo. I'm just checking here if it is possible.

If it is possible, I'm wondering if the lower clock of the 4850 at 625 would underclock the 3850, or overclock the 4850.

I think it's technically possible but it's not officially supported. Even if you could get it working I doubt it would be worth the hassle.

Actually, there is, but ATi does not officially support it. They did however state that it will probably work. I do know for a fact that a 3870 and a 4850 will work, so why not?

What I want to know is what kind of performance difference there is between just the 4850 and the 4850 CF with the 3870. If I didn't have this crappy 680i SLI, I'd test my 3850 with my friend's 4850 and see what happens.
