Nokia's official "Conversations" blog has been updated with a reminder that the company is holding a press event on October 22 in Abu Dhabi. However, Nokia has also posted a teaser image showing a smartphone, tablet and notebook. At least two of those form factors are expected to be revealed at the event, which will be streamed directly to Nokia's blog for all to see.
"This time around we also have an extra treat in the form of a second round of webcasts, after the main announcement," the blog reads. "These are additional interactive sessions that go into much more detail about… well, whatever is announced in the morning. These sessions have historically been reserved for the press, bloggers, partners and analysts who attend Nokia World, so we're extremely pleased and excited to be able to offer them here on Conversations, for the first time."
Nokia is expected to reveal its Lumia 1520 phablet with a 6 inch 1080p screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip. Also expected during the show-and-tell is the Lumia 2520 "Sirius" tablet featuring a 10.1 inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, Windows RT 8.1, 32 GB of internal storage, 2 GB of RAM and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip clocked at 2.3 GHz. This tablet will also supposedly have a 6.7MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, and a weight of 1.3 pounds. LTE 4G will also be an option.
As for the notebook, to this date there has been no information about Nokia working on such a device. Furthermore, the company's last foray into the notebook realm was the Nokia Booklet back in 2009. That said, it's quite possible the "teased" notebook may be nothing more than an example of how Web surfers can view the Nokia World event on October 22: by phone, by tablet or by notebook/desktop, whichever the visitor chooses.
"The press conference will start at 8am UK time (that's 11am Abu Dhabi time). And the webcast from the event will be broadcast right here on Conversations, so that you can watch the action on your screen of choice!" the blog reads.
Guess we'll find out soon enough. Still, at this point, it wouldn't be surprising to see a Windows RT 8.1 notebook to compete against Google's Chromebooks.
