Diablo 3 Auction House Delayed Again, New Patch Coming

By - Source: Eurogamer | B 38 comments

Blizzard's announced that the real-money auction house will no longer meet its target of a May launch.

The Diablo 3 real-money auction house has been, once again, delayed. Although the auction house has been working with in-game currency since the game’s launch, Blizzard took it down earlier this week to address some unspecified issues. At the time of this article, the auction house is functioning to some capacity, but commodity auctions have been taken down.

At the game’s launch, Blizzard announced that it would be delaying the real-money auction house’s launch until the end of May, probably because it was busy dealing with a host of server issues that cropped up. Now that we’re here down to the last week and a half of May, Blizzard states that the real-money auction house no longer has a release date. Hopefully, this doesn’t mean that Blizzard doesn’t plan on seeing the real-money auction house to fruition for another half a year.

Blizzard also expects to launch a client side patch next week to “further address client issues and apply additional bug fixes.” Perhaps the nefarious achievements issue, where players aren’t receiving certain achievements as they should be due to server problems.

Blizzard’s also published a list of hotfixes that have been applied to the game since its launch. The list is actually impressively long and includes the Monk and Demon Hunter nerfs that were released just a few days ago. The list is as follows (and may contain spoilers, for those who've yet to finish the game):

Monsters:

  • Mehtan the Necromancer and his skeletons can no longer be used to kill other monsters which have been kited to their location before or after the "Restless Sands" event.

General:

  • Players will now receive an error message when attempting to remove a gem from an item with no sockets (rather than disconnecting).
  • Players will now properly have their casting interrupted when attacked while performing resurrect on a fallen group member.
  • Resolved over 30 game and service crashes affecting players.

Classes:

  • Demon Hunter:
  • Active Skills:
  • Smoke Screen: Duration reduced from 2 seconds to 1 second (tooltip will still show 2 seconds).
  • Skill Rune - Lingering Fog: Now increases the duration of Smoke Screen to 1.5 seconds (tooltip will still show 3 seconds).
  • Monk:
  • Active Skills:
  • Fists of Thunder: Skill Rune - Quickening. Fixed an issue that was causing spirit regeneration to incorrectly trigger off critical hits from other sources, such as Sweeping Wind.
  • Mantra of Healing: Mantra of Healing will now correctly provide only two times the base healing effect for the first 3 seconds after activation, down from four times the base healing effect (tooltip will still show the old value).
  • Skill Rune - Boon of Protection. A maximum absorption amount has been set to 1000 Life.  This skill will be redesigned in an upcoming patch.
  • Wizard:
  • Active Skills:
  • Arcane Torrent: Skill Rune - Cascade. Fixed an issue that was causing Arcane Torrent to fire 3 new missiles per kill instead of only 1 new missile per kill. Number of simultaneously missiles generated from this rune will now cap at 10 missiles.
  • Energy Armor: Skill Rune - Force Armor. Amount of damage absorbed from a single attack will now cap at 100% of a player's maximum Life.

Items:

  • The chest spawn in the Town Cellar in Alcanus has been changed from a 100% chance to spawn a Resplendant chest to a 50% chance to spawn a Normal chest.
  • Players can no longer dual-wield two-handed weapons.

Classes:

  • Monk:
  • Active Skills:
  • Serenity: Skill Rune - Tranquility. Duration of immunity granted to nearby allies from crowd control effects reduced from 2 seconds to 1 second.

Encounters:

  • Players will no longer remain invulnerable to attacks after defeating Diablo.
  • Players can no longer become stuck during Diablo's Shadow Grab ability if a player blinds Diablo while Shadow Grab is being cast.

Items:

  • Equipping a shield on a follower as a demon hunter will no longer disconnect you from the game.

Quests:

  • Act I: Players can now always interact with Karyna during the quest and quest step "Trailing the Coven : Talk to Karyna" when they resume from a save.
  • Act II: The Enchantress will now always appear during the quest and quest step "Shadows in the Desert : Disrupt the Hidden Conclave."
  • Act IV: Tyrael will now always be present for the in-game cutscene during the quest and quest step "Prime Evil : Climb to the Pinnacle of Heaven in the Silver Spire."

Not surprising seeing that they are having problems with hackers clearing out peoples accounts of cash and items (though they are still trying to avoid admitting it is a security problem on their end !!) --- It makes sense they can't launch the RMAH until they get the security leaks fixed -- I mean it's one thing to lose everything yopu worked in game to get but imagine the uproar if people were actually losing all the cash and items they paid real money to get !!

and soon we will be paying for the real money AH. This will be soon a pay to win game.
Blizzard will make items and post it on the real money AH and all your money will go to them.
So get ready to pay more to Blizz.!! This is a real money making machine for them.

What is the point of a real money auction house? Seems incredibly stupid to me. The regular AH on the other hand is great.

At least they are fixing issues. Awesome games from Bethesda always ship and then get fixed by the players. Then Bethesda releases a patch and breaks all the fixes the players made, while still not resolving the issues that the players fixed. While it may not be ideal, a perfectly executed game is something that doesn't exist. There will always be unforeseen problems that arise, it is how the company chooses to deal with it that sets them apart. Blizzard will get everything worked out, don't worry, remember they also have a stake in the success of the game. The RMAH is something they need to have happen, but they also need players to be able to cash in on it. And if you don't like the idea of paying real money to get the desired item in the game, you could always just play it more and not use the AH.

Ah, who cares about the auction house.

All the prices are absurdly high. Even level 5 gear for thousands, and thousands of gold.

All thats going to happen when they allow real money items will be EVEN more costly. Why can't people sell stuff for fair prices?

Tired of seeing level 20 pathetic amulets for 200,000 Gold. A level 20 wont even have 30,000 Gold.

Lots of scumbags in the AH, and it will only get worse.

    @m3tric
idk, the ah kinda breaks the game. The prices are incredibly cheap and it's making the game uber-easy. I'm about to try hell mode, hopefully that's a bit harder.

    @screwtheoverpricedah
wtf? you clearly don't know how to use the AH. I admit it has a pretty bad search engine but you can find some excellent deals if you use the right filters. Here's an example:
Search for 1 or 2 hand weapon using the following:
-minimum x amount of your primary stat
    -"has sockets"
Then set the max buyout to 5-10k and find a decent item. You can sort by dps by clicking the "dps" column header in the search results.
Then buy a red gem (the ones priced around 5k) and insert into the item for an awesome damage boost.

Don't waste money on gem crafting or item forging. (maybe it's good late game but on normal and nightmare it's useless due to the ah)

How about the 200 page, 4000 post thread (that's only 3 days old!) of account hijackings?

But of course, according to Blizzard, it's nothing on their end. You know, the PSN hackings took 2 weeks to come to light...

Maybe it isn't on their end. Maybe they just haven't found it yet. I don't really know, or care. It's shameful that they have a news-feed in the client and haven't put a "change your password" message up after so many accounts have already been compromised - many on clean machines, or Battle.net accounts that haven't even been accessed in months (or both!)

thats the whole point dude some1 is keeping the gold ah price so high that it becomes insanely high for the lowbies.. and yes.. more people will opt for real money ah since it will be affordable... this was all diablo was intended for ... just making money...
I am lvl 60 and most of the items with crappy stats cost 1000000+ i dnt evn have 500000 gold..
and item drops lvs in act 1 inferno seems to have been nerfed .. most of them time lvl 54 items are dropping where as it should be lvl 60 items.. wth they want us to do with lvl 54 items and fight with those 1 shot mobs.. ??? get ready all new diablo players for real money AH and pay to play this game...

xerrozYeah. But a game that's been 11 years in development?

You have no clue what you're talking about. The achievement system hasn't been in Blizzard games before November 13th, 2008. The date when Wrath of the Lich King has been released. Burning Crusade was released Januari 16th, 2007. That means the earliest development of the achievement part could have been since then, which is just over 5 years.

Still a lot of time, though. However, you can kind of expect errors to happen with registering achievement events if the servers go down constantly. People have reported continues play during time periods where others got disconnected or were even unable to log in. The lost achievements are most likely originating from playtime during those periods, and has absolutely nothing to do with how long the game has been in development.

    Let's all cry about it.

The game is 11 years in the making, that's why there's so much to fix, it's a complex game. I've been playing it since 3 days after launch, and haven't had any issues. The auction house rules, the game is extremely enjoyable, and the story is very engaging. The game itself is very well done, and I can't complain at all. It's a huge game, it'll have bugs, deal with it.

All these cry babies saying this game is easy or broken is just mad cause they suck at it, and they're not loaded with millions of gold to power house through content. If you dont like it, stfu and stop playing. It'll save me from the log in queue.

Any moron who says the game is easy, has yet to step in inferno solo. It's all fun and games till you get one shot by almost every mob in inferno.

I am getting a little tired of people claiming this game has been in development for 11 years, it simply is not true. It has been 11 years since D2's release. Seeing how the game is full of bugs, isn't very graphically advanced and the fact that Activision owns Blizzard now, this game has probably not seen a longer development cycle than any other AAA title.
