NEC said that it will begin shipping three new LCD modules targeted at outdoor sub-notebook applications in June.

The models will come with screen sixes of 8.4" (VGA and SVGA) and 6.5" (VGA) and will be equipped with the firm's proprietary "super-transmissive natural light" (ST-NLT) technology, which promises improved display of colors on screens that are used in bright daylight. According to the manufacturer, the LCDs offer 50% more brightness than common LCDs and can operate in a temperature range of 14° and 158° F.

Pricing has not been announced.
