Next StarCraft 2 Chapter May Come In Early 2012
Greg Canessa may have revealed Heart of the Swarm's release date.
Thursday during GDC Online 2010 in Austin, Texas, Battle.net project director Greg Canessa took the stage and talked about the future of Blizzard's gaming service. However once he was done, Canessa took questions from the audience, one of which may have triggered Canessa to reveal the release schedule for the next StarCraft II installment, Heart of the Swarm.
Based on his answer, fans won't see the second chapter anytime soon. Canessa began explaining future Battle.net features such as trading replays, broadcasting replays, and upgrading profiles. He then added that the upcoming features were "a main area of focus we're going to be seeing on the Starcraft [II] side over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm."
That's right, 18 months. Gamers wanting more of the Zerg faction possibly won't see the second chapter until sometime around March or April 2012. GameSpot followed up with a Blizzard representative who said that there was no official release window for Heart of the Swarm. However the rep also added that the game would not be a part of Blizzard's lineup for Blizzcon 2010 scheduled to take place in Anaheim, California later this month on October 22 and 23.
Heart of the Swarm is one of three chapters that comprise Blizzard's sci-fi RTS for the PC, StarCraft II. Heart of the Swarm will allow players to play the role of the Zerg Faction while the third installment--Legacy of the Void--will allow gamers to take on the role of the Protoss faction. At this rate, gamers may not see the trilogy come to its conclusion until 2014.

Get Diablo out the door. I would be happy with that.
I waited 10 years for a Starcraft sequel, I can wait 2 years for the sequel's expansion........
sad though
T-T, have to wait so long
2 years for levels and cutscenes...
Fruck you Blizzard and your time consuming development. Maybe your just lazy...
Two years? I thought the point of splitting the campaigns was to expedite development.
This reminds me of something else, Half life 2's episodes.......
NooOOooo!!! I thought this'll be out anytime soon. Darn, after two years, SC 2 would look like crap T_T
promise to add support for dx11, make the hybrid race playable make sure the campaign is longer! Then, I'll understand.
Kerrigan!!! T_T
What about episode 3? 2014?!? Hello dx12.
All i'm going to say if development takes this long there better be an engine overhaul, the game looks pretty good now could have looked quite a bit better, but in 2014 or whenever the last expansion comes out it's going to be quite dated i mean i remember back in like 2008 or 2007 they were show demos of the engine
hmm hawe they got the mod comunity running yet? last time i checked a bit poor amount of td and almost no hero defend
*crickets* or *the sound of people caring*
this is exactly what happens when a company has so much money and has to do little to continue profiting... little incentive to get off their asses and get shit done.
It's always the best games that take an assload of time to come out...
Where is Episode 3...
They don't have to write an AI engine, they don't have to do any new graphics, and they don't have to do any beta testing. How could it possibly take longer than 3 days to throw some levels together and voice record some scenes.
lol read it as a new starcraft cheater comes in 2012, wow blizz must be goooood...
I'm not waiting on no starcraft expansion! To me personally, 90% of gameplay value of this game is in multiplayer. I beat the campaign once, I liked it, especially the jukebox soundtracks ("Zerg, shotgun" anyone???) But I don't see myself replaying it anytime soon. So, the only real benefit is the new units that may or may not be in it.
I agree with the first post that they finally need to get D3 out the door. One could be tempted to throw SC people on Diablo project instead. However, as we all know “adding more workers to a project running behind schedule will make it even later”. Blizzard never set a release date for D3, so it cannot be late by definition, but I feel this rule would still apply. So, D3 is just going to come out whenever it comes out…
At that time people will end up bored.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. Blizzard always takes an eternity to get its games out the door. This is nothing new.
2012 ??? why not after Dec 21 2012 !!!! LOL !!!
yup by the time the 2nd one is released...the first one would look so outdated it's laughable. since these games are standalone, the disparity between part 1, part 2, and part 3 would look like night and day. you have dx9 for part 1, maybe dx10/dx11 for part 2, and maybe dx11.x/dx12 for part 3. then you have the next gen console released (xbox 720, ps4, nintendo wii 2) which would retard the pc gaming tech for another 5-6 years.
Of course it won't come out soon, Blizzard's gotta milk every penny out of SCII first!
We knew this. Move along, people, nothing here to see.
WTF?! 2012?! C'mon Blizzard get with the development! I can deal with the 10 years between SC and SC2 but making us wait 2 years for the 2nd installment is a serious buzzkill...
its blizzard.. it'll take till 2012 as stated it will likely be delayed... btu it will be worth it... they pump out a new halo every year and look where the quality there has gone ... give you a hint not in a good direction
2 years for levels and cutscenes...
Basically, as far as the actual campaign goes...it seems to me like a bunch of people playing around in the galaxy editor. Of course there's more to it, in fact building the story would take up more time when compared to time spent in the galaxy editor.
Lets hope Diablo III comes out before then to hold us off until the next StarCraft II chapter is released.
Another vote for a game engine upgrade! Maybe Blizzard can have the game utilize more CPU cores as well as DX11.
It seems for any blizzard game you have to wait for ever, why do they have to be so damn good.
There lucky and take there time that's far more than i can say for square enix, what a downward spiral of a disappointment.
2 years??? LOL.. this is too long to wait for those who are addicted to Star craft...
Makes me glad I didn't buy SC2. I am not a fan of Player vs. Player in RTS games. I look forward to the story and the single player campagin and in 18-24 months I will have forgotten everything I did in the first one.

Having played SC2 from beginning to end, I highly doubt, at least for myself, that one would forget what they did. It's no Final Fantasy 7 but it's still got some pretty memorable cut scenes and missions. Now, is it worth $63.59...I would have to lean towards yes, if you plan on doing some decent MP, if for just the campaign alone, you may want to wait for prices to go down (although I just saw a D2 BattleChest on a store shelf for $40...)
