Ubisoft Uses 360-Degree Video For 'Jack The Ripper' DLC Trailer

The first wave of DLC arrives today for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, titled Jack the Ripper. Obviously, the expansion focuses on the Frye twins as they hunt down the notorious serial killer as he continues his search for more victims in London. As expected, Ubisoft released a trailer for the new content, but this one’s different: The company used YouTube’s 360-degree feature to enhance the experience.

Instead of you staying in one place for the entire trailer, the video constantly moves from one location to another, as if you’re on a ride. A black bird, presumably a crow, guides you as it flies through the abandoned hallways of a hospital and then moves to a room where Jack the Ripper fights Jacob Frye. After that, you fly over the street, where you see Jack’s latest victim before entering another room where he begins planning for his next target -- Evie Frye.

Before the actual trailer even starts, Ubisoft recommends using Google Cardboard along with the YouTube app on your Android smartphone. If you don’t have Cardboard or an Android phone, there’s no need to fret. You can still use the 360-degree feature on the YouTube app, regardless of mobile OS, or you can simply watch it on the YouTube website with the Chrome or Firefox browsers.

The idea of 360-degree video was first introduced on YouTube in March as an experimental feature. At the time, only a handful of videos were able to use it. However, the step is a logical one, with VR rapidly coming to the fore, and in just a few months, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive HMDs are expected to launch.

Between buying a new GPU and two SSDs this Black Friday, I got 3 free keys for AC:Syndicate. I sold them all on eBay and got over $100 back. 10/10 GOTY.

So is this game any good? I haven't played any of the AC games in the past, but I got a key for this free when I bought my GPU.
Thing is, at 40GB download, this would eat up 2/3 of my monthly data cap. Wondering if its worth it...

Honestly, the only ones worth a go are 1, 2, and Black Flag. And they can be had mighty cheap these days.
