BlizzCon 2009: No Diablo III Date, Consoles
Diablo III made an appearance at BlizzCon 2009.
BlizzCon 2009 kicked off earlier today and revealed a few tasty nuggets for StarCraft II and World of WarCraft fans. However, BlizzCon attendees and Diablo III fans discovered a startling truth: Blizzard did not announce any plans to release the action RPG next year. In fact, the company only mentioned the two previously mentioned titles for 2010. Does that mean Diablo III will likely see a 2011 release? It's possible, but we're crossing our fingers that some kind of miracle might happen before then.
But even though Blizzard didn't chisel a definitive release date into stone, the company did provide a few tasty morsels regarding the fourth Diablo III class, the Monk, a character that first made an appearance in the original Diablo's "Hellfire" expansion.
"It's a class that has its roots in old school fantasy, but we believe you haven't seen it quite like this before," said Blizzard's Chris Metzen. "I'm very proud to introduce to you, the new Diablo 3, with all of its open-handed, Tiger-strike packed fury, the Monk."
Blizzard updated the BlizzCon website with new information regarding the Monk class here along with additional details explaining combo moves, runes, monsters, and more monsters. The opening ceremony blog even dictates the following: "Lots of melee, very fast. There's that shielding spell again. Another spell that has the Monk warping from enemy to enemy in a blur. Touch an enemy and it explodes in blood and gore. He does carry some mace/staff thing, so it's not all hand-to-hand like an old-school Monk."
Additionally, Joystiq pointed out that Blizzard COO Paul Sams said that the company hasn't completely ruled out Diablo III for the consoles. "We've met with the major manufacturers, and they've made some pretty compelling arguments," Sams said. While the game is quite possible on the PlayStation 3 given its compatibility with a mouse and keyboard, we're wondering how the game would perform on the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. The last Diablo title to hit the console--namely the original PlayStation-- didn't fare well, mainly because the control scheme didn't work quite so well using the PlayStation controller.
Joystiq also provides video footage of the Monk from Diablo III right here.

I can' wait for d3...
Can't opps
To be honest, I'm beginning to lose interest in Diablo 3 and somewhat in StarCraft 2 due to the delays... I feel that I don't care anymore, since there hasn't been any new gameplay or trailers being released to keep me motivated.
hopefully it will come before im an old fart
^ Don't worry about the delays so much. The good thing is they're making the game better. A working game is more important than meeting deadlines.
Blizzard and release dates.
'Nough said.
well part of my motivation was lost when they got rid of lan only, i still have a few friends without an internet connection making this these games useless to them and anybody at their lan party
lol, hopefully it wont come to the same result as star craft ghost
ps3 has mouse and keyboard support? for which games?!?!?!?! some of us are stuck on our PC's for the very reason that we suck at FPS's using a controller.
Lets not worry bout dumb consoles, just release the damn thing to PC. FFS!
Just enough info to keep Diablo Fans interested. Me, maybe I'll be interested when a demo or something finally comes out.

Amen.
I didn't just spend 1300 on a i7 to play on a shitty console with either a 7xxx class GPU (PS3) or a crappy IBM tri core (Xbox 360).
Though, Xbox Natal with D3 may be interesting...
unreal tourny for ps3 has mouse and keyboard support
Diablo was my all time favorite. Diablo II sucked so badly I wouldn't even think about Diablo III anymore!
I doubt they can do it again the way they have done it the first time!
Enough already. I am sick of this. I knew all long, just like Duke Nukem Forever, it will never come out. First Star Craft and its stupid 3 title release one after each year and then no Lan. Sorry, i am not sure if every one is with me on this, i WILL not buy anything from Blizzard or rather Activision ever again. 13 years is far to long
Blizzard can release D3 to consoles if they really want... but please worry about that AFTER you've completed the PC edition Blizzard!!!
I'm really starting to hate Blizzard. They're getting really arrogant about releasing things whenever they want, holding it over your head for years. They know every 12 year old kid will still buy the game, so they'll get their money's worth - but every person I know that used to play Blizzard games stopped because of all their meandering to do it their way, despite whatever their customers say they want.
i'm waiting for this game for so long, i hope it's worth
talk is cheap...we'll see what you all end up doing when the game comes out. More likely then not you'll end up buying it, supporting this kind of behavior. The only way Blizzard/Activision is going to change is when they're wallets get hit.
If you say you're not going to buy it, don't. Nothing pisses me off more then when their are a bazillion people complaining about this, and then the first week that the actual game comes out it breaks records on how fast it sells. Let's put a stop to that.
ahha when did diablo 2 come out like 1999 so it took them almost 10 years to say "hey should we make a diablo 3? people seemed to enjoy the first 2"
So we wait ten years for a "sequel" and we get a game that has one or two familiar characters, a new art style, less character classes (when you factor in LoD) or just as many (but none of the ones you got to use before), no solid release date, and we get to see a new character every few months when Blizzard wants to sell tickets to its next WoW expansion announcement/nerd costume party? Forget it. I'm not buying Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 (which is going to be a rip off of epic scale), or anything else that comes from ActiBlizzard.
I'm sick of people talking about how they're a great company and they actually take their time with the games they release. Discounting WoW (and I do discount it since it's more of a money pit than a game) when is the last time they released a game that was fun/free to play online/innovative?

So dont buy/play their games. No one is holding a gun to your head.
I am to understand that people would rather have a shit produce out in their own time-line, rather than a working produce that does what the game maker says it will do? Of course, there will be small bugs that anyone better than you will miss, but at least they are attempting to release a quality produce. How many other companies can you say that about?
I have become less interested in Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 due to the forcing of Battle.net use and the fact that LAN play will not be available. I have two homes and at one my only internet option in Verizon Wireless Broadband or dial-up. I have friends that do come over and we do some LAN gaming. A 5 GB limit each month hampers what I can do at this house, so it is stupid that you can only play through the internet.
This is the reason why my second Xbox 360 and PS3 are never online, so this is the reason why I am likely to not purchase these two games. If only LAN support were to be added, or if Blizzard were to promise to add LAN support in the near future, then I would purchase both games.
Let's hope.
i`ll grow old with a big beard by the time D3 is released. Forget about it !!!

Yeah, like Duke Nukem Forever for example!
C'mon guys, use your heads. Blizzard always delays there games, and when they come out everyone loves them. You can stop the whining about delays.
Blizzard releases games when they're ready. Blizzard Has released some of the best, most memorable games of all time. Perhaps there's a link between these two facts....?
yeah but seriously these delays and setbacks are starting to get ridiculous... how many friggin wow add-ons are they going to make before they make a new game worth playing?
Half the people that CAN even remember some of their great games dont even play games anymore because they have grown up and moved on past playing games. About the only games they watch now are sports and fantasy football leagues while taking the kids to soccer practice... Come on Blizzard, finish a game while it still matters to some of us out here and for f^&ks sake, put LAN play in it!!
The time they release a Diablo game is when was a kid to now I am an old man. How long does it take? I will get, but not sure I will have time to play much in 2011? I played the orginal Diablo on the PS1 and PC. the Pc was made for these game, but the Ps1 wasnot too shabby, just a little difficult to do some things, but the basic commond were fine.
