Confirmed: Serious Sam 3 in 2010

Serious Sam 3 is seriously slated for 2010, probably after The Second Encounter HD.

With the recent release of Serious Sam HD: the First Encounter and a HD version of Second Encounter also slated for a 2010 release, rumors of an actual third installment have been floating around for days. Talk of Serious Sam 3 is nothing new, but the release of the recent HD version sparked a new interest in the once-rumored game.

So is it just rumor? No. According to Destructoid, Croteam boss Roman Ribaric said that Serious Sam 3 is definitely in the works, and that more information regarding the game will be released soon. "Serious Sam 3 is happening for sure," Ribaric said. "It is currently planned to be finished in 2010."

Developed by Croteam, the original Serious Sam game was published for the PC back on March 2001. Rather than rely on a heavy plot, the infamous first-person shooter borrowed heavily from the "arcade" gameplay elements of older PC games such as Quake and Doom. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter trailed the initial installment in February 2002, followed by Serious Sam II in 2005.

Although Serious Sam 3 is expected in 2010, it's a safe bet it won't arrive until after The Second Encounter HD is released.

Serious Sam HD (both FE and SE combined) also needs to come out. This is the best news this week so far.

what are these 'HD' versions? can't you just up the res in the settings of the originals? are they like texture packs?

anyway, SS3 ftw! I'd like to see you play A SS game on a controller!

The HD versions use Serious Engine 3, the originals use Serious Engine 1 which is 7 or 8 years old. It's got nothing to do with the resolution. A few things were removed, at least from the First Encounter (such as directional gravity) because of the time needed to rewrite AI. Look on Youtube for some trailers.

If it's finished in 2010 there's a risk it won't actually ship until 2011 unless finished means finished and tested ... or ofcourse if ubisoft makes it, it won't be tested at all and just shipped .... or worse - if focus home interactive (french) handles distribution it won't even show up in stores or etailors! Let's hope it won't be that bad. SS is a great game for relaxing

I've bought every SS game out there so far. SS HD is awesome! Its alot more than just a graphics upgrade. Honestly SS 2 was kind of a dissappointment to me. Hopefully croteam doesnt fumble the ball like they did on SS 2..
