Windows 7 Drivers Download Roundup

Next news
10:00 AM - May 20, 2009 by Marcus Yam, Jane McEntegart

Get your latest Windows 7 drivers here!

With some of you running Windows 7 RC now, we’re going to be keeping a list of the latest driver releases for reference.

ATI/AMD Radeon (NEW!)

Nvidia GeForce

Nvidia GeForce 3D Vision

Creative

Mind you, many of these drivers are still in beta, so don’t be surprised if things aren’t completely stable yet. Don’t forget that Windows Vista drivers are supposed to work just fine.

Of course, to take advantage of some of the new performance tweaks to the way Windows 7 handles desktop video memory, you’ll want to try some of the WDDM 1.1 drivers. As for chipset and SATA drivers, current WDM drivers supplied by your motherboard manufacturer for Vista works well in Windows 7.

why are so many people hating on windows 7 rc? I NEED TO KNOW WHY THERE IS SO MUCH HATE!

i mean alot of people say its better than vista, but not xp, but than again, people need to understand that to move forward, you need more resources. i mean how much is 4gb of ram anyway now? $45?

btw all this hate is coming from other forums, not TOMS.

ATI just released an early Windows 7 version driver today actualy. I was able to reach 16909 with 3DMark Vantage on my Crossfired Quad core setup(check sig for all specs). Where as I was only able to reach 16781 before. Very nice set of drivers.

The updated version still comes with CCC 9.4 though but, the drivers are 8.612xxx though so, and Hydravision comes with them as well which aparently it has been awhile for that one. I would link those drivers if, your not.

hikayu, you've taken the words right out of my mouth. time to upgrade to RC. hopefully retail copy isn't overpriced. if it is, im pretty sure prices will come down fast, demand for the OS is high right now, and a lot of people i know are willing to cough up the cash for release date.. hopefully we'll be finding better deals of win 7, cause frankly, ive never seen a good OS deal on vista ever

Grrr ..... FINE I'm installing RC1 tonight! You guys plus Anand has me SOLD. I've used it on other people's computers, but haven't taken the plunge on my main rig. I've seen enough. The support for Windows 7 is excellent at this stage of the game, and I think I'll be just fine! Thanks, everyone for all the feedback and reviews.

I'm thinking of installing win7 on my netbook. But sometimes I'd like to play good old games. I just wonder if win7 rc runs dungeon keeper 2, kabuto etc. with no problems. If ati resolves issues with drivers on win7, more radeon will be sold with ease.

I read on cnet that XP mode is kind of "clunky." Hopefully they get all the bugs worked out.

Windows 7 feel like an interface overhaul of Vista. I'm not surprised if the Vista drivers work. I ran Fallout3 last night and it ran much smoother on Win7 than Vista.

Seriously, Microsoft should just hand Win7 free to anyone who bought Vista as an apology.

I just got the nvidia drivers last night and they seem to work very well with Windows 7 RC. Very stable system so far...as soon as i got everything loaded i backed up my PC immediately.

I installed Win7 on my old P4 box, sadly the 82845G chipset doesn't even have Vista drivers. I don't need aero, but I do want more than 800x600 default resolution. Thanks Intel, for your crappy chipsets!

Why do people keep suggesting that Microsoft give them Windows 7 for free/reduced price just because they bought vista. You paid for the product the way it was. You paid for Vista, not Windows 7. If you wanted a different product than the one you paid for, why did you pay for that one? Your logic makes no sense. It also makes no sense from a business standpoint to give away your newest product just because someone bought your old product.

If I go out and buy a car that doesn't have xxx feature, can I seriously expect the dealership/manufacturer to just give me a new car the next year because I already got what I paid for the year before? The car that I got still has all of the features it had when I paid for it.

Because Vista was craptastic. We paid for a product MS lead us to believe is the pathway to nirvana. Windows 7 should technically be Service Pack 2 and FREE. It's just Vista with improvements. NOT a totally new OS.

If there is a recall on a car, they fix it for free or buy it back. My uncle had a 96 Tacoma with rotting axles, Toyota paid him $11,000 because it was a defect.

Not to mention, if you bought a PC laptop the last couple of years, you had no choice but to buy it with Vista unless you pay extra for XP. The only other option was to go Mac or deal with Linux. In a sense MS was forcing Vista to customers who don't build their own PCs.

LOL craptastic far from it. try running Vista on a NEWER PC and you will see its better than XP. stop being a sheep and following the hate vista crowd.

If MS didn't offer windows 98 SE free to windows 98 owners then they will not do it for Vista owners. its like saying i bought a 2008 car last year so they should give me the 2009 model for free. you guys are pathetic

Has anyone tried Physx on an Nvidia GPU while running graphics off a ATI GPU yet? I believe this might be possible with the WDDM 1.1 drivers from Nvidia and ATI, but last time I tried it on build 7077 it wouldn't work. I'd try it myself, but I just re-installed Vista and got everything back way I like it and I'd much rather know if it works before installing Windows 7 RC. Thanks.

If you have an older ATI card, you need to use Catalyst 9.3. Version 9.3 does not support legacy products.

Go here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownl [...] ng=English they have a list of products that aren't supported by version 9.4, plus this is the download page for Catalyst 9.3

Speaking of drivers, I'm not able to install the Windows 7 RC on my laptop because of a "missing" CD/DVDrom driver. How dumb is that? I was able to install an earlier build of Windows 7 without any problems.

Your CD/DVD drive is running under RAID for whatever reason. Just load the RAID drivers that came with your motherboard, and it'll work fine.

Not entirely true. Sure in theory. But I initially tried to upgrade my vista 64 to win 64 - and when it was done converting and all, it bluescreened with an irql bugscreen indicating a driver crash. So I'm guessing either the intel 1000 mt or the alc899a driver didn't like windows 7. Anyway a rollback worked perfectly. I ended up installing a fresh win 7 - it was kind enough to move all the vista stuff into a windows.old folder - so it's really easy to upgrade that way. Though admittedly stuff needs reinstalling.

sure while win 7 is better ... cista price will plumet when win 7 hits .... soooo i may jsut be looking at avista update after all ... i'll wiat and see i certainly wont pay more than 300 bucks for a new os

There's a reason why Microsoft rushed the development of Windows 7.... It's what Vista was supposed to be.

Im still pissed off that Intel never released vista drivers for its older chipsets...which means that they arent going to release windows 7 drivers either...GOD I HATE INTEL!...Im stuck with a Video Score of 1 for my tablet because I cant get any hardware acceleration...wish my tablet had an amd/ati or nvidia chipset, so that I could get proper support...

Have you tried to hibernate a vista-win7 pc recently? I did, it take minutes in these new OSs, but it only takes 15 seconds on XP. After you hibernate it takes the same time and even more to startup on these new OSs, on XP in the other hand, it takes 10 seconds.
Dual core
3GB ram DDR2
500GB SATA RAID 0 (2x250GB)
8600GT
Audigy 2 Value.

So you see it's not a ram problem, it's a k@ppy os problem. :(

PS. These new os doen't have real Opengl API. OpenGL it's multiplataform(Consoles, mac, win, linux, unix, etc.) :(
