Call of Duty: Ghosts and Watch Dogs Need 6GB RAM, 64-bit

The system specs for the PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts have appeared on Nvidia's GeForce site, revealing that the upcoming game will require 6 GB of RAM and a 64-bit operating system at the very minimum. The recommended system requirements only show the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780, which isn't surprising given the game one of the flagship Nvidia-branded "Battlebox" titles slated to hit store shelves this holiday season.

According to the minimum requirements, Call of Duty: Ghosts will need an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 chip clocked at 2.66 GHz, or an AMD Phenom X3 8750 processor clocked at 2.4 GHz, or better. On the GPU front, gamers will need a Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti or an AMD Radeon HD 5870, or better. Other requirements include 6 GB of RAM, 50 GB of HDD space, a DirectX compatible sound card, and a broadband connection for multiplayer and product activation.

Meanwhile, several sites have managed to scrape up the new system requirements for Watch Dogs after Ubisoft said earlier this week that the previous lists weren't "official." Unfortunately, the current PC hardware requirements still take a great deal of luck to pull up, which PC Gamer clearly points out. This time, there are only two lists revealing that PC gamers will still need a 64-bit operating system and 6 GB of RAM at the very least.

Minimum
* Supported OS: Windows Vista SP2 64-bit, Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit
* Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.0 GHz
* RAM: 6 GB
* Video Card: 1024 VRAM DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5.0
* Sound Card: DirectX 9 compatible sound card
* This product supports 64-bit operating systems ONLY

Recommended
* Processor: Core i7 3770 @ 3.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz
* RAM: 8 GB
* Video Card: 2048 VRAM DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5.0 or higher
* Sound Card: Surround Sound 5.1 capable sound card
* Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
   -- Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 or better, GT 500, GT 600, GT 700 series;
   -- AMD Radeon HD 5850 or better, HD 6000, HD 7000, R7 and R9 series
   -- Intel Iris Pro HD 5200

Watch Dogs is also shown as a Nvidia Battlebox-certified game, as is Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Batman Arkham Origins. As PC Gamer points out, over 50 percent of the Steam user-base are using 4 GB of RAM or less, meaning they won't meet the minimum system requirements for Call of Duty: Ghosts and Guard Dogs at the least. Even more, many of these machines may not be capable of competing in the AAA gaming space.

Activision's Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to arrive on Microsoft Windows, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii U on November 5. Ubisoft's Watch Dogs is slated to launch on Microsoft Windows, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii U on November 19.

    Because they didn't need it till now since the new consoles are coming and what PC gamers get are the console ports.

    No reason for the recommended to not list the sandy bridge i7-2600K really.

    Solid, engaging gameplay trumps graphical prowess.

    How is a GTX550 Ti equivalent to a HD5870?
    I remember my HD6950 ( HD5870 ) equivalent beating a GTX560 Ti and on par with a GTX570 when OC'ed

    True but not all console ports are equal. When done right, a console port can take advantage of a PCs power.

    Max Payne 3, out in 2012, was recommended to have 2GB or more of VRAM and needed 3GB at 1080P to max out the game with AA.

    It depends on the game company and how willing they are to use the hardware PCs have.

    I am sure it will get better with the new consoles but I doubt they will all require a HD7970 or GTX780 etc.
