With ZyXEL's New Residential Gateways, ISPs Can Give Their Customers Wireless AC Wave 2 Performance

ZyXEL Communications unveiled two new Wireless AC Wave 2 residential gateways (RGs), the VMG4825 and the VMG9823, which are aimed at giving providers the performance needed to provide better services to their clients. Additionally, ZyXEL revealed the VMG3925, a single line VDSL2 gateway rated at AC1600 speeds.

The VMG4825 and VMG9823 are ZyXEL's two new AC2050 VDSL2 Bonded Wi-Fi Gateways. Presently, average homes have over 10 devices connected to their networks, including mobile devices, game consoles, and devices that stream HD content. With the high volume of data that customers are demanding from their service providers, some ISPs are having trouble remaining relevant due to subscribers switching plans if the provided speeds aren't up to par. ZyXEL believes its new VMG4825 and VMG9823 will provide ISPs the solution to appease customer demands.

ZyXEL's VMG4825 and VMG9823 feature VDSL (G.993.2) bonding with 200 Mbps upload rates and 100 Mbps download rates. The gateways support vectoring for 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 12a, 12b and 17a profiles, which reduces cross-talk and increases performance and range by up to 150 percent. The gateways offer wireless speeds of up to 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1.7 Gbps on 5 GHz.

Because the gateways are Wireless AC Wave 2 products, they also include MU-MIMO technology, allowing the gateways to service multiple devices simultaneously without losing performance. The gateways also provide up to four SSIDs that helps service providers create separate Wi-Fi networks.

Both gateways contain QoS features, such as 802.1Q VLAN tagging and untagging, support for flexible traffic classification, and VLAN stacking support. Additionally, the VMG4825 and VMG9823 feature support for TR-69 remote management capability with TR-181 support, allowing the gateways to gather diagnostic information.

Physically, the VMG4825 and VMG9823 look identical and feature essentially identical hardware. What sets the VMG9823 apart from the VMG4825 are its phone features; the VMG9823 features caller ID; call forwarding with "No condition," "Busy" and "No answer" settings; call transferring; three-way conferences; abbreviated dialing; Interactive Voice Response; a Flash hook timer; a "Message Waiting" indicator; T.38 fax relay; and a flexible dial plan.

Finally, ZyXEL's third revealed product, the VMG3925, is an AC1600 combo gateway. It features single line VDSL with 100 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload rates, plus speeds of up to 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1.3 Mbps on 5 GHz.

ZyXEL's VMG4825 AC2050 VDSL2 Bonded Wi-Fi Gateway and VMG9823 AC2050 VDSL2 Bonded Wi-Fi Gateway with Voice will be available through service providers at the end of the month. At this time, a list of participating service providers was not available for publication.

The VMG3925 AC1600 Wi-Fi, Single Line VDSL2 Gateway is available now.
