Ashton Kutcher to Start Acting Like Steve Jobs in May

Earlier this month, word got out that Ashton Kutcher was set to star in a movie about the life of Steven P. Jobs. The rumor was so ridiculous that many people wrote it off the second they heard it. The fact that Variety first reported it on April 1, also known as April Fools' Day, didn't exactly help. However, Variety insisted that the story was real and just too good to sit on until April 2. Still, we had our doubts.

Now, a fortnight on, more news about the project has emerged. It seems the movie is to cover Jobs' life from the year 1979 to 2000. This means we'll see the founding of Apple Company, Jobs' ousting from his own company, his hand in getting Pixar going, and his eventual return to Apple in time for the iMac. Mark Hulme is producing the movie, which currently has the working title of, 'Jobs: Get Inspired.' Hulme spoke to Neowin about the project and revealed the period the movie will cover along with why they chose Hollywood golden boy Ashton Kutcher for the role:

"Since our film covers the early years of Apple, when Jobs was in his 20's, we needed an actor who could carry not only the youthfulness of Jobs at the time but also the psychological complexity," Hulme told Neowin. "Because of that, and Ashton's physical similarities to Jobs, he's perfect for our film."

Kutcher is said to be excited to play the part of Jobs but we're still in the dark as to who will play the Woz. Hulme says we can also expect to see John Scully, Mike Markkula, Daniel Kottke in the movie but stopped short of revealing who will play them.

The movie is scheduled to start shooting next month and Hulme said they're aiming for a Q4 2012 release. A second movie based on the life of Jobs, this one based on Walter Isaacson's autobiography, is also said to be in the works after Sony Pictures Entertainment bought the movie rights to the book. Noah Wyle played Jobs in Pirates of Silicon Valley but it's not yet known who will take the role in the Sony Pictures film.

I insist, Mike Myers dressing like "Dr. Evil" would be a better actor for that role.

He hasn't enough experience to play as Jobs; he's not a father yet, he doesn't know what is like to have a son or daughter and deny him or her and not supporting him or her during the first years of life.
