Prey 2 Lead Character is Bounty Hunter, No MP

NeoGAF has provided additional details about the upcoming Prey sequel from Human Head Studios, taken from the latest issue of Game Reactor.

Unlike the first installment, the game's storyline will center on a bounty hunter named Killian Samuels, a former sheriff and prison guard. The game will even begin in the same timeframe and starting point as seen in the original Prey, but gamers will instead control Samuels rather than the previous hero, Tommy. "If the first Prey was the Luke Skywalker version of the story, Prey 2 is Bobba Fett's story," Human Head Studios told the magazine.

According to the article, the game uses an updated version of the id Tech 4 engine, confirming a recent comment made by Bethesda's Pete Hines. The game has also been in development for three years but restarted several times during that timeframe. If those two factors haven't already cast a shadow of doubt, the Xbox 360 version is supposedly the main platform with the PC and PlayStation 3 versions serving as secondary releases. There's also no multiplayer or support for 3D, Microsoft Kinect or PlayStation Move.

"Who would pick the MP mode of Prey 2 ahead of the one in, for example, Halo Reach?" the game's producer told the magazine. "We'd rather do a really good SP adventure."

Game Reactor said Prey 2 will feature an open world, allowing players to roam about the virtual terrain of Exodus as they see fit rather than fall prey to the typical linear track suffered by most FPS games. Players will also have the ability to converse with anyone at any time, and to take on missions as they choose. Game Reactor said the virtual terrain will feature large desert areas, big cities, cave areas and more.

The gameplay itself was compared with various titles, featuring a "moving scheme from Mirror's Edge, the freedom of Mass Effect and the fire fights of Killzone 2." There was also mention of an enhanced Killzone-esque cover system, a loot system similar to the one of Borderlands, and aliens that look nothing like we saw in the original, but something similar to the Mass Effect aliens in both looks and armor/clothes. The side quests are comparable to the ones featured in Red Dead Redemption.

"Killian [is] flexible and limber as Faith of Mass Effect, leaping over heights, hanging by arms from pipes, balancing on thin boards and jumping like a cat upwards structures," the magazine states.

It better have one hell of a replay value... Even more if you guys are comparing it (or making parallel statements) to ME2!

Sounds like they already ruined the game... The original was awesome but, I don't see an open world for prey being all that great. Being linear allowed so many cool effects that I doubt they could pull off in a roaming world.

also mass effect is an fps/rpg not just an fps and I doubt it would have hurt development to build some basic multilayer... They will have already built character/vehicle/weapon and environment models from single player.

I would rather see linear, great story and co-op play that makes sense. Also some basic mp and just because lots of people want to play MW & halo doesn't mean some of us don't like to try other stuff.

Not to mention the physics in the game will be different, I played multi after it's time when almost no one played but I did get some games in and it was really cool, you can run up walls or onto the roof etc.

I forgot to say it's a real disappointed to see the game designed for Xbox 360 instead of PC, I know the industry would like to milk the consoles for ten years but come on that isn't going to happen.

I retired my Xbox 360 at the end of last year because the graphics are too aliased and it's just not keeping up visually anymore, even though PC gfx are so behind where they should be. Also games take forever to load on such ancient tech.

(ancient by us PC users who expect better hardware pretty much twice a year)

ME is not an FPS... Unless you have another meaning for that acronym...

They got ME (Mass Effect) confused with ME (Mirror's Edge)!

I hope they do this game different to the first because i certainly wont buy it if it is.

Didn't play the first one. Sounds a lot like the newest Wolfenstein where you can run around(limited) and go to the blackmarket to upgrade your weapons. JMO

I hope they give us a memorable singleplayer experience and not some subpar 8 hour campaign. I'm glad they're going mroe open world in PRey 2 since the first game was horribly linear and got tedious after a while. I felt the first game dragged for way too long to the point where I felt desperate to finish it and could not care mroe for the characters or the story happening. Though its graphics at the time were pretty damn good and the portal things were great it felt more like it was tacked on just as a cool feature.

I don't mind not having MP, but they'd better not charge $60 for it. I'd pay maybe $30 for a good single player only FPS. And the gameplay better be more than 10 hours.
