SimCity Release Date Pushed Back to March 2013

By - Source: GameRanx

SimCity's release date has been pushed to March.

EA's SimCity reboot, from the various gameplay trailers that the publisher's so far released, looks to be shaping up to something pretty good. The impressive multiplayer, which seems to be social game done right, and the mere fact that it's a SimCity game is probably enough to ensure success.

Unfortunately, all good things usually tend to come later rather than earlier, which is still significantly better than never at all. EA's announced that SimCity's launch window has been pushed back a month to March 2013, avoiding a packed February of Dead Space 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance, and BioShock Infinite for an equally packed March consisting of the South Park: The Stick of Truth, the Tomb Raider reboot, God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgment, and Pikmin 3.

Delays are an expected part of development, especially for large releases like SimCity. Hopefully, Maxis and EA will put those extra few weeks to good use and we'll get a better polished product.

SimCity will be releasing on both Windows and Mac on the new projected release date of March 8th. Here's to hoping that there aren't further delays.

Just push it back to 3013. This game eats more time than is worth it. You start at 9pm .. look at clock 5am?!? How the?? Got to leave for work. Need sleep. It needs a warning.

SimCity will require players to be logged into EA's Origin service to play the game, even single player.

Don't worry. EA will take the servers down in 2 years wither or not you still play the game like it does with everything else.

this game is ALL i need... ive seen the gameplay, trailers, etc etc, i just want it soo badly. I remember playing the original simcity when we were just kids on the old apple mcintosh in the 90s hehe. We would destroy cities with disasters... now im all grown up it looks like those architect models that's just screaming to be destroyed ^_^

Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 looked pretty good before they released too. Never underestimate the ability of EA to screw things up. They can, they will, and they have. No need to get excited over this game until after release when we get to see reactions from actual gamers and not paid reviewers. Also, don't forget about that failure called Origin.

I don't see how you can do a remake of a Sim game. Every sequel is the same game with improvements made. With something like Tomb Raider, you can retell the story so it's a remake. What about this is a "remake" and not just a sequel?

EA is a black hole for game developers...

It swallows them up and crushes them in it's center....

While this game looks amazing, I won't be buying it for one reason: always-online DRM. Regardless of how amazing the game is, I cannot stand for something that disallows usage when there isn't a constant connection to the Internet.

This is one game I will get from EA, and no I will not be paying for it, Single Player Offline Mode for me only, and you know what that means!

As a loyal SC fan (I still play SC4, with a region of over 4M), I will wait until there is a hack to trick the game into thinnking its connected to DRM servers. I'd hate to not be able to play "just becuase" of no internet, or EA takes down servers

EA Origin + Always Online DRM. Enough said.

Does this game require a constant online connection as one commenter mentioned above? If so, there is no way that I'm going to buy this. I live in a major city and have excellent internet, but it seems like about 1 in 10 times I try to play a game that requires a constant connection it just doesn't work. Even when it does work, it often takes a few minutes to play. It also forces you to download updates which can cause stability issues. In Diablo 3, I can't even play the game any more as one of patches causes my game to freeze after ~10 minutes of play. I only play single player games so this is just unacceptable to me.

I'm going to stick with SimCity 4 Deluxe with 10 GB of mods, texture packs, and other custom contents.

    Why?

The new SC looks like socialism. Seriously, I want to manage a city, NOT OIL PRODUCTION FROM SOME WELLS.

EDIT: All I ask for is multicore support for SC4 and maybe true anti-aliasing. I'll pay $10 for it as long as no DRM is included, honest.
