EA Announces Battlefield 4's Launch Window

On Tuesday during a Q1 2013 earnings relations call, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau announced the expected release window for Battlefield 4, saying the game will arrive on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC during its 2014 fiscal year. That means fans won't get their hands on the final game until sometime between April 2013 and March 2014.

Current speculation points to an October 2013 window given that the publisher has a track record of launching AAA shooters in the fourth quarter since the release of Medal of Honor back in 2010. There's also speculation that EA may release an HD version for the next-gen consoles slated to be officially announced during E3 2013 next June.

Previously EA announced that exclusive access to the Battlefield 4 beta would be offered to gamers who pre-ordered Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition (or Digital Deluxe) from EA's Origin platform before the game's launch on October 23. The exclusive beta, according to an EA press release, is slated to launch in Fall 2013 -- additional details regarding Battlefield 4 will be revealed at a later date.

"We’re not ready to talk about Battlefield 4 yet - in the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy Battlefield 3 and all the Battlefield 3 Premium content still to come," the company said. EA also assured current Battlefield 3 players that there's plenty of story to tell and new content to release before Battlefield 4 becomes the new focus in the popular franchise.

In addition to Battlefield 4, Gibeau also talked about the future of the Medal of Honor franchise, saying the company resurrected the franchise in 2010 with the goal of building a sustainable long-term franchise that is positioned around the authentic experience of being in combat.

"We were very proud of the first product; it definitely delivered on a lot of fronts and a couple of fronts it didn't," he said. "[But] we weren't as pleased with the quality as we had hoped to be. Our goal with [Medal of Honor: Warfighter] was to change things up a bit. We're tracking to grow the franchise from the 2010 version and our goal is to continue to have Medal of Honor as part of our portfolio going forward."

2014, Xbox 360, & PS3? WHERES THE NEW CONSOLES?!? Looks like they're milking 2006(actually older) hardware as long as they possibly can.

Is that speculation of a Medal of Honor Allied Assault HD remake? That would be awesome.

Why? They butchered BF3 once it's compared to BF2 or BF2142. I for one will not be buying BF4 and will probably be saying bye to the FPS genre until they stop being CoD copies.

BF3 is a nice game now, go check it out if you haven't lately. Took them a little too long to get out the bugs, but I guess that happens when you use a brand new engine.

As for BF4, I will be a bit cautious in a purchase this time. Hopefully it isn't out till 2014.

As for 360 and PS3, I highly doubt that they will make BF4 for them. I think it is really just a cover up, as MS and Sony don't want any info released on their next consoles.

They should delay it until 2015.

Can we go back to WW2 already and stop the modern warfare stuff?

I guess BF2 is partly to blame for the rise of the modern military fps, but we're even more sick of modern shooters now than we were of WW2 shooters back in the mid-2000s.

BF3 killed the series anyway. Too much focus on consoles, badly designed maps, no teamplay...

Battlefield 3 is the worst game I've played in the past couple years. Rampant hacking, client-side hit detection, connectivity bugs galore, no mods or custom content, no private servers, and player/vehicle-improving unlocks mean I won't go near Battlefield 4. I bought BF3 to play with friends only to find it to be the most friend-unfriendly multiplayer game I've played in years. I can't see how anyone can get legitimately excited for BF4 especially given it's being targeted for hardware so old my 4-year old laptop could run the game.
