Chinese HTC One to Include a microSD Card Slot

HTC has justifiably placed great emphasis on the HTC One’s “gapless construction.” It seemed that the price for the device’s stellar exterior reflected the loss of a removable battery and microSD slot. Though the former compromise can, to an extent, be alleviated through careful battery conservation or external USB chargers, there’s really no solution for a lack of expandable storage if you like carrying around a large media library and don’t have a large data plan.

It is now apparent that HTC may have overstated the necessity of a fully sealed device since the Chinese version of the device features a removable back door and gasp a microSD card slot.

Though this release still doesn’t grant access to the battery, and it is a few millimeters wider and thicker than the North American or International versions of the device, we’re confident that most users would be more than willing to make this trade-off for the option to expand their device's storage.

MicroSD card slots shouldn't be news. It's a shame that it has become that way for a Android device

WHAT??? and they couldn't have released this version along with the unibody aluminum one internationally why? choice would only benefit the consumer and HTC could use the love...

I can see a pattern, Korea gets better versions of S3 and S4, now China getting a better HTC one.
Now apple just have to handicap the international iphone... Too bad I'd never buy that crap anyways.

you failed to mention that the chinese version also has dual sim card slots, i guess this is the main reason why they got a removable back cover, thus the expandable storage, it makes sense because many chinese carry two phones or dual sim phones as it is the norm in China.

A device with expandable storage? An external port? My god what a breaktaking and unique idea! Apple should patent this! Amazing what humanity will think of in the 1970's. Waaaaait a second....

Whats the fuss with all this SDcard nonsense? I have an 4gb sdcard in my phone... i never took it out... so what`s better than internal storage? Main problem should be the non removable battery... which all know that LI-ION loose their capacity over time used or not... and who will throw 600 euro for a device with 2 year battery life (within 2 year li-ion accu loose 30-50% of capacity - and that is a proven fact)!

The lack of expandable shortage and replaceable battery is nothing short of planned obsolescence. They want you to need to buy a new phone in a couple of years because the one you have won't hold a charge and won't hold the new media you want to put on it.
