OLPC Shows off Super Sexy Tablet Due in 2012
It might just be a concept, but man, that is one sexy concept.
Designer Yves Behar has just unveiled the latest vision for the XO laptop and, while the current laptop has yet to hit that all-important hundred dollar price point, this one will apparently cost $75. Did I mention it's a criminally pretty too? Because it is.
According to Engadget, the tablet sports an 8.5 x 11-inch touchscreen, a camera, Pre-style induction charging and an "8 gigaherz [sic]" (800MHz?) processor. OLPC is expected to launch this iteration of the XO laptop in 2012 but what's happening in the two years between the XO laptop we have today and this half-as-thick-as-an-iPhone XO-3?
According to Nicholas Negroponte, the OLPC Foundation plans to release two more models before the XO-3. Interestingly, the company has no plans for an XO-2. In January they'll be launching the XO-1.5. An upgraded version of the current model, the XO-1.5 will swap a VIA CPU for the current AMD one, and will double the speed as well as quadruple both the DRAM and Flash memory of the current version. The XO-1.5 will cost around $200. Early in 2011 OLPC will launch the XO-1.75 which will sport rubber bumpers on the outer casing, an 8.9-inch touchscreen display inside, and a Marvell ARM processor which will enable two times the speed at a quarter of the power usage
It's going to be a busy new year for OLPC!

sliem Wow, it's pretty. Wife will love this. Unfortunately you can only use it for up to 12 months because we'd be dead by Jan 2013... lol.Reply -
Looks more like a cheap toy than anything else.Reply
Wonder if the buttons are actually touch screen or the old fashion bubble buttons one would find on a remote or some such?
If it's a true touch screen, then at least the model would hopefully be customizable as to the colors and looks. -
Parrdacc Believe it when I see it. Of course, as sliem mentioned, we might all be dead before we could really use it.Reply -
eduardosmx It doesnt look good or hot or anything elso XDReply
It looks like a cheap piece of plastic that u can buy on dealextreme -
Pei-chen Department of Justice needs to investigate OLPC Association for embezzlement of funds. They are like the United Homeless Organization that was recently exposed to be a fraud. How a charity cans keeps missing its targets and spends most of its money on operation expense be legit.Reply
They are scamming people with two OLPCs for $400. Implying their crappy “PC” with a free OS is worth $200 a piece. $300 will buy a more powerful netbook with real features and windows. -
