For the past few hours, Ubisoft's YouTube channel was broadcasting what seems to be a cave painting with the title "Ubisoft Announcement — COMING SOON." What started as an image of a human with a torch and bow eventually expanded to reveal more paintings on the wall such as wolves rushing through the woods and other hunters taking down a wooly mammoth. The company has yet to make its official announcement, but an early tweet from IGN Turkey points to a reveal of another installment in the Far Cry series titled Far Cry Primal.
Unlike the traditional installments in the series, the title and the teaser suggests that players will travel back in time to the dawn of humanity. Instead of utilizing guns and vehicles, you might end up just using a crude version of a club, spear, and a bow and arrow.
This also provides an opportunity to encounter extinct wildlife such as a saber-toothed tiger and even take down a wooly mammoth. Far Cry 4 allowed players to ride elephants, so it's not a far-fetched idea that the taller wooly mammoths are available to ride.
Of course, there's also the question of environment. We can expect to see everything from scorching plains to a freezing landscape of mountains and glaciers.
A spin-off to the series is not uncommon. After the release of Far Cry 3, Ubisoft released Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which utilized many of the same mechanics as the base game, but had no relation to the overall story whatsoever. Far Cry Primal might provide a bigger experience than Blood Dragon and keep fans happy as they wait for Far Cry 5.
We reached out to Ubisoft for comment and will update when we get a response.
