Asus Padfone 2 Nears 1 Million Sales, Successor on the Way

Asus' Padfone 2, a device that serves as a smartphone/tablet hybrid, is nearing a million units sold three months after its launch.

According to Taiwan-based supply chain makers, since the device's launch three months ago, it's sold nearly one million units globally, while shipments are still continuing at a steady pace.

The Asus Padfone 2 offers a 4.7-inch screen and a pixel density of 312ppi. When it's converted into a tablet, it sports a 10.1-inch screen. Under the hood is a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor with an Adreno 320 GPU, as well as 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage (this can't be expanded due to the lack of a microSD slot).

A 2130mAh battery powers the device, alongside a rear 13-megapixel camera capable of shooting video in 1080p at 30 frames per second, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing snapper. Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean is the Padfone 2's operating system.

The successor to the Padfone 2, meanwhile, is expected to be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress. MWC commences on February 25 and runs through to February 28.

    Loving the new mobile devices coming out for ASUS recently. Was going to get the Window 8 surface pro this Saturday, but after I saw the Transformer Book from CES, I'm grabbing that instead. Also, the Vivobook, Vivotab, Taichi, etc. all seem like very good products compared to the competitors. I'll probably go from my Galaxy device to the Padfone also depending on what they reveal at MWC.

    I would love to take my SGS III and dock it to a tablet and use it at the hotel or on a plane for videos and such :) Too bad that isn't possible right now, but it's a dream :)

    I really hope the next iteration of the padphone makes it to the US, I love the idea of an all in one device... i know US carriers want to sell a tablet data plan and a phone data plan but the padphone is just cool and functional one device with so many functions /drool

    Totally agree ASUS making some of the best devices.
    But on the Taichi part, I had high hopes for it too. But after playing with it in person, I'm giving up on it for a Yoga.
    The screen on Taichi was not the best screens(color and viewing angle), the tablet was a little bit too heavy for my liking in tablet mode, and lastly the UI transition was not seamlessly(from laptop mode to tablet mode). Also, maybe it's the unit I was playing with, the touch screen was not sensitive, at least comparing to Yoga side by side. Yoga has won my heart this round.

    My stupid friend didn't read that it wasn't available in the US but bought it anyway (don't ask how). Anyway, the phone is AWESOME! The problem is that it only gets Edge over here so he returned it.
