Pantech Announces Discover: 4.8-inch Android Smartphone

Pantech and AT&T have announced a previously rumored 4.8-inch Android smartphone at CES 2013 in the form of the 'Discover'.

The 4.8-inch 720p HD display is accompanied by a 12.6-megapixel camera, as well as 4G LTE compatibility. It's powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.

Other features include NFC (near-field communication) and a 2,100 mAH battery to support the screen. Pantech incorporated its Easy Mode into the smartphone, which simplifies the Android home screen layout via large, pre-installed icons.

AT&T is also integrating its own mark in the device via its DiveMode app, which helps users from texting and crashing. It'll be the first handset to receive the U.S. carrier's service in question.

The Discover, which will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, costs $49.99 with a new two-year contract with AT&T. It'll be available on January 11.

Yay for phones launching 2 versions of Android behind. Really promising that we won't have a repeat of 2.3 anytime soon (not).

Every Pantech product I've ever come across has been complete junk, along with their customer service. I'll be surprised if this is any different, just harder to return and get your money back.

CrArCYou accidentally a few words there, Zak! Huh? Good thing you can edit you post so as to be clear.

Zak, we know there's pressure on you to get these stories out as quick as possible but we don't mind if you take the time to proofread.

On topic, it's not a bad phone for $50 on contract. The folks in the market for this probably wouldn't know the difference between ICS and JellyBean anyways and wouldn't understand why they'd want a removable battery or a micro SD card. This phone seems to be geared towards the same crowd that might otherwise buy and iPhone.
