Motorola XFON Series May Include Up to Four SKUs
A CDMA version of the XFON has appeared in leaked Motorola drivers, and a Sprint-specific model has appeared at the FCC.
We expected to see Motorola's rumored XFON during Google I/O, but we didn't. Instead, we're still left with rumors and speculation about the so-called customizable line of Android smartphones. The last we heard, this XFON line will heading to four U.S.-based carriers, one of which is clearly AT&T thanks to screenshots of the device, and a trip to the FCC.
Earlier this month, the Motorola XT1055 appeared on a recent AnTuTu benchmark believed to be an XFON series device. It had a total score of 18252 and revealed to have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 SoC clocked at 1.7 GHz,and Android 4.2.2. This 28 nm LP chip includes four Krait 300 CPU cores, an Adreno 320 GPU, 32-bit dual-channel LPDDR3 technology, and a dual-band Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.0 component. The screen size for this model is supposedly 4.7-inches.
One source reportedly had hands-on with an LTE version of the XFON, possibly the AT&T model. This particular unit was running Android 4.2.2 "Jelly Bean" and had 32 GB of internal storage, 2 GB of RAM, but no SD card slot. It also had a screen size of around 4.7 inches (likely 5 inches) but with a very, very slim bezel. Both volume and power buttons were on the right side, and the headphone jack was on top center while the charging port was on bottom center.
The Motorola XT1058, slated for AT&T's network, reportedly has a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor (MSM8960T) clocked at 1.7 GHz, an Adreno 320 GPU, and a 4-inch to 5-inch display with a 1196 x 720 resolution – some reports claim 1080p. Additional features include dual-band 802.11ac wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and Android 4.2.2 "Jelly Bean".
Got it so far? Two XFON devices: the XT1055 with a 4.7 inch display and the XT1058 with a possible 5 inch display. Now after a little digging through an .ini file pulled from leaked Motorola USB drivers, there seems to be a third CDMA variant of the XFON called the XT1060. This model is listing a chipset labeled "MSM8960CDMA" which is a Snapdragon S4 Pro dual-core variant. It's assumed to be the same Pro clocked at 1.7 GHz with the Adreno 320 GPU that's found in AT&T XT1058 model.
There's speculation that Motorola and Google are looking to release a trio of smartphones much like they did at the end of 2012 with the release of the RAZR M, RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD. However these will not be locked to a specific carrier. That said, Google and Motorola may be trying to keep the XFON models as similar as possible across multiple carriers, but cater to three different budgets.
We already see evidence that the XFON spread will cover AT&T and Verizon, so it's easy to presume the third and fourth local carriers will be T-Mobile and Sprint. Unfortunately, there's a lot of speculation, a lot of supposed leaked specs and a number of leaked images that makes the whole XFON saga a bit confusing. Too bad Google didn't clear the air last week.

UPDATE: Here's a version supposedly for Sprint, the Motorola XT1056, which just arrived at the FCC. It's certified for LTE Band 25, and the fourth device in the supposed XFON line.

XFON, S4, htc one blah blah blah all of them missing a feature which many very cheap mobiles do have. Second SIM slot!
Many people like me like to keep personal and professional lives separate. I really can't have single contact for both. And I hate carrying two mobiles. So no matter how smart todays mobiles are turning out to be, if they don't have second sim slot then they are not getting my money.
PS. Not everyone lives in US. I live in free world of mobile networks. -
mscim What are the odds that the new phones will have wireless that actually works? The Nexus 4 certainly did not, and they don't appear to care much about trying to fix issue 40065.Reply -

AFAIK, the only phones that have dual-SIM slots are the ones specifically designed for the Chinese market. There may be some other carriers that offer that, but definitely not in the US, since half of the main carriers here don't even use SIM technology. -

It's a problem with Qualcomm's drivers, not Android's code.

That's not true. There are tons of other countries where these mobiles are preferred. Except apple, every mobile manufacturer makes double sim mobiles. So why not make a high end mobile with that feature to cater rest of the world.
