Kingston Digital Announces SSD Video Contest
The first place winner will receive $7,500.
Tuesday Kingston announced that it's holding a "How Can a Kingston SSDNow Drive Change Your Life?" video contest for U.S. residents. Entrants are implored to creatively demonstrate how using a solid-state drive can change one's daily life. A total of 13 winners will be awarded--the 1st-place contestant will receive a tasty $7,500 and the 2nd-place winner will receive $5,000.
Entries will be judged based on creativity (concept) and presentation, whether it's to express an idea or tell a story in video form. This means contestants should use every avenue possible such as using props, inserting graphics and soundtracks--whatever it takes to get the message across.
“Kingston encourages people to create videos based on real-life daily use of an SSD or something out of their imagination," said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston. "We’ve heard from customers who praise the durability of the drive as they take their laptop to remote places. Other people have told us the speed and overall system responsiveness from the performance boost of the SSD has made their older PC feel like new again. Whatever it may be, Kingston might take one of the winning ideas from our video contest and create an entire marketing campaign around it."
Here's how to enter:
- (1) create and upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo or another video hosting webite
- (2) head to http://www.kingston.com/ssd/videocontest/ and submit your video link and contact information to be automatically entered to win.
The contest begins July 19, 2010 and will end on September 20, 2010. For contest rules, head here. Sorry, booth babes not included.

Well count me out then!
WAY too much work for a silly contest. I'm sure there are people that may enjoy this type of thing, but I see it as Kingston trying to buy bargain advertising.
More power to the people that enter though!

"demonstrate how using a solid-state drive can change one's daily life"
Once upon a time, I had $200 to buy food.. but instead I bought Kingston SSD and now I'm dead from malnutrition. The end. Where's my money?
7500 wow.
Was thinking about a concept where a guy breaks into your house with a computer in one hand and a gun in the other. He says that if you can't make his machine boot faster, he'll kill you and destroy your computer. You go quickly cannibalise a Kingston SSD from a computer, put it in his machine and your life is spared. Logo: Buying a Kingston SSD could save your life and your computer's life.
Creative huh? Only problem is I'm not in the US....
time to fire up my digital 8 camera and adobe premiere, i actually have a few ideas
