The Sims 4 Headed to PC, Mac in 2014

Just over 13 years after the first installment hit the PC gaming market, Electronic Arts and Maxis have announced the fourth installment in The Sims series: The Sims 4.

Slated for a 2014 release on the PC and Mac, the new game promises a deeper connection with the most expressive, surprising and charming Sims ever. It will encourage even more personalization thanks to new and intuitive tools, and even more socialization thanks to the ability to "effortlessly" share the player's creativity with their friends and fans.

"The Sims franchise is fueled by the passion and creativity of its millions of fans around the world," EA said on Monday. "Your continued devotion to the franchise ignites the fire of creativity of the team at The Sims Studio, driving them to continually improve and innovate on one of the world’s most successful simulation game that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide."

Although the company didn't provide any additional details, the announcement called The Sims franchise itself a "single player offline experience", seemingly pointing out that fans likely won't face the same online-based launch problems customers of SimCity 5 experienced earlier this year. The latest Sims addition, it seems, won't require an always-on Internet connection.

"Thank you for the support of the more than 30 million fans that share and discuss stories about The Sims across global social networks, we held a special VIP briefing this morning where several of the world’s top fans were amongst the first to hear the news about The Sims 4," EA added. "They got to speak with the creative team for The Sims 4 and will have special access to the development team."

Unfortunately, that's it for now. We'll likely see more Sims 4 action next month during E3 2013 in Los Angeles.

Like Blizzards recent efforts, I feel like I'm gambling if I let myself get excited by the next EA title.

Glad there is at least two other people who understand you have to actually quit buying EA games if you want them to quit being the worst publisher ever. :D

Buy Sims 4, get another EA back catalogue game free. EA will have learnt nothing from the SimCity debacle, and nobody will be able to connect for the first 4 months, and they'll think well we'll give them another crappy game from our back-catalogue and that will make everyone feel better about buying a game they can't play on holiday, on planes, on anywhere they can't get an intenet connection and certainly not even at home during the first few months. When do we suckers wise up?

I'm a big fan of The Sims series (not really a fan of Sim City), and I really hope EA won't screw this one or any other games from now on.

Interesting... Why would they say that? Are they admitting that the always online is a mistake? I personally would feel that the sims series is more akin to being an online game than sim city...

I hope they brought back some of the nicer features of The Sims 2.

I'm tempted to buy it to review it, smash it, obliterate it verbally and berate it publicly and with art, to keep others from buying it.
SimCity has left me in a bad place with EA.
