Space Hulk Making a Return in 2013 with Co-Op

Games Workshop said on Monday that its popular Space Hulk board game, which is set within the Warhammer 40,000 universe and borrows from the Alien movies, is making a return to the PC platform, along with Mac and Apple iOS versions (what, no Android?).

Electronic Arts made the first video game attempt with the launch of Space Hulk, a real-time tactics title, for the PC and Amiga way back in 1993. Three years later, the publisher followed up with the release of Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels, a first-person shooter, for the PC, PlayStation, Sega Saturn and 3DO consoles in 1996. A mobile phone version of the board game was eventually released in 2005, allowing players to take the role of Space Marines or Genestealers.

Currently in development by Full Control (Frontline Tactics), Space Hulk players take command of a strike force of Blood Angels Terminators as they make their way through the close confines of the Space Hulk vessel. The game will be turn-based and emulate the look and feel of the board game, but with full 3D animation.

"Genestealers lurk menacingly while the Terminators use their action points, bolter rounds tear down corridors in overwatch cut-scenes and whole sections of corridor are set alight as the heavy flamer hoses them down," the company said.

Space Hulk will consist of 12 missions based upon the "Sin of Damnation" campaign from the board game's Third Edition. To make it interesting, the game will sport both cross-platform co-op and competitive multiplayer gameplay. There will even be a level editor with the ability to share creations, and game expansions in the future will be served up as DLC.

"Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space," reads the new Space Hulk website. "Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers."

Games Workshop hasn't offered any additional details or media save for the teaser trailer (seen below) and a few wallpapers, so stay tuned. The official Space Hulk website is waiting for you here.

Go look at the dev's portfolio which is nothing but iOS games (with 2 PC ports), then look at the quality of this trailer and then go look at the quality of their other TBS games. Not hard to come to these conclusions.
