With such a dismal showing in a part of the game that appears limited by the graphics subsystem, we turned our attention to the CPU. First we scaled down clock speeds:
Not the most interesting of charts, but I think we get the point--the game isn't all that dependent on CPU speed. Let's see if the number of CPU cores has an impact:
Dual-core processors will be just fine, thank you. A single-core CPU suffers a notable drop in performance, but who is running those anymore, anyway?
The good news is that from what we can see here it looks like STO will be quite happy to run on the lowest-end platforms, even as it wants a bit of graphics muscle thrown at it.
