Transcend Launches a New External SSD
On Friday, Transcend introduced a new portable solid-state drive, the ESD400. This new model arrives in capacities ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB, and has a durable, compact design that can withstand five times the shock or vibration of your typical external hard drive. Pricing for the ESD400 starts at $109 USD.
According to Transcend, the new ESD400 has read speeds of up to 410 MB/s and write speeds of up to 380 MB/s. The drives are equipped with USB 3.0 connectivity, allowing them to send data to and from a connected device 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Thus the SSD is capable of transferring a full 4.7 GB DVD movie in just 13 seconds.
"Due to the absence of moving parts, Transcend's flash-equipped ESD400 runs cool and silent," states the PR. "Taking full advantage of solid-state storage technology, the ESD400 not only offers superior durability and reliability, but is also much smaller and lighter."
The playing card-sized drives measure just 92 x 62 x 10.5 mm and weigh a mere 56g, making them easy to slip into your pocket. The ESD400 also comes with Transcend Elite software that enables the one-touch auto-backup button to instantly backup and synchronize the files. Transcend Elite can be downloaded from Transcend's website and used for free.
The ESD400 line of SSDs are available now in 128 GB ($109), 256 GB ($189), 512 GB ($349) and 1 TB ($699) capacities. The drives also come with a three-year limited warranty.
In addition to the ESD400, Transcend also offers the ESD200 in 128 GB and 256 GB capacities, and the StoreJet Cloud Wireless SSD, which provides its own wireless network so that up to five devices can stream video and transfer files simultaneously.
