Laptop Hunters Episode 4: $2,000 for Video Editing

The latest episode of Microsoft’s ongoing ad campaign is upon us. As a running theme all throughout the ads, a supposed real-life simile (played by an actor) is in the market for a laptop with some loosely defined requirements. All the subjects apparently have to briefly consider a MacBook before scoffing and going with a PC.

Episode four of the series follows the same trend, detailing Shelia, a filmmaker with a $2,000 budget. Like those before her, Shelia is in Best Buy looking at various laptops. She briefly looks at the MacBooks before deciding against it, as the one she was looking at comes standard with only 2 GB of RAM.

Besides RAM, Shelia wanted a powerful video card. She asked a salesman, “Is this graphics card going to be powerful?” to which he replies immediately a not-so-confidence-inspiring, closed mouth “Mhm.” The salesman isn’t wrong though, as Shelia eventually goes with an HP HDX 16t which comes standard with a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT and the option to upgrade to a 1 GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M.

Yeah... quad vs dual and 4GB vs 2GB and both have the same GPUs which are plenty for video editing... yeah the HP kills the MAC. I love how the little kiddies on the Youtube keep saying that the anti virus and the video editing software will make the HP cost more...

Ok Avast 4.8 Home edition + Comodo Internet Security = $0 for some of the best protection out.

    Pinnicle Studio Enhanced = $100

Guess what? Yeah the HP is still cheaper...

    What is the 130GT????

    I know it's probably rebranded.... but isn't the 8800gt the 240GTS? ...so wouldn't that make the 9600GT a 230GT? ...so wouldn't a 130 be crappier?

Even if Windows 7 only improves slightly between now (RC) and retail, Apple should be concerned.

I'm not really an Apple hater, I would own one of their laptops if they were more accurately priced to the actual hardware you receive.

I've also hated on Windows plenty in the past, but I could not believe how responsive and slim Windows 7 7077 felt on my dated Core 2 Duo processor.

That's only performance wise, on the visual side, everything looks pretty in Windows 7.
