Intel to Offer "StoryBook" Tablet in Emerging Markets

The tablet will feature a 10-inch screen, two operating systems and run on Intel's Medfield platform hardware. The StudyBook will be offered beginning in the second half of the year, and may become available in retail channels for less than $299, according to Digitimes.

The report states that Elitegroup Computer Systems as well as while China-based Malata have been chosen by Intel to manufacture the StudyBook.

Intel's Classmate PC program launched in 2006. The most recent iteration is based on a 7-inch, 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch Lenovo design, Intel's Atom N270 and N455 processors, up to 32 GB flash memory or a 30 GB HDD, as well as Windows XP Professional and Mandriva Linux 2010 operating systems. Digitimes noted that Intel has updated the 10.1-inch Classmate PC with Windows 7 and an N2600 processor in Argentina. The PC is priced in the $300 to $400 range and has received 158,000 orders so far.
